107, IE Context Menu Speller w/ Norton 2002

Since the release of Windows XP and many people upgrading to Norton Anti-Virus 2002, I've had several dozen emails regarding a failed script message when folks try to use my spell check script from the Internet Explorer context menu. I'll offer my sincere apologies for not investigating this sooner but I've been involved in several other projects.

If you want to use the IE spell checker, you need to change one setting in Norton. Open Norton AV and select "Options". In the selections to the left, under "Other" you want to select "Miscellaneous". Remove the check in the box for "Enable Office Plug In" As long as you've not turned off the Office feature that warns you about the presence of macros, this change in Norton should not make you vulnerable, assuming that you don't double click on scripts from strangers.;-)

Thanks Steve, I'll try that tonight and report back.

That fixed it for me! Don't know how you ever found that obscure cause.

Shelly,

I had not upgraded Norton after installing XP. Because of your problem with the script, I tested it right before installing Norton AV 2002 and right after the install. Even isolating it to the Norton program, it was quite the process to discover that setting.;-)
