1448, Windows Xp & Mustek Scanner Software

Do you own a Mustek Scanner and Windows XP? Are you having trouble loading the software for the scanner? If you get this error message when loading the software:

"This software is for Windows 95, Windows 98 SE or Windows 2000 Only!"

Here is a fix that has worked for me:

1. Open the Registry Editor(Start, Run, "regedit")

2. Open the following: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/WindowsNT/CurrentVersion/ProductName

3. Change the key labled "ProductName" from Microsoft Windows XP to Microsoft Windows 2000

4. Exit the Registry Editor and run the Mustek software.

5. After loading, change the Product Name value back to Microsoft WIndows XP

This has worked for me and my Mustek 1200UB is working fine!

:)

In most cases a W2K driver will work in XP. When I tried to load the W2K driver for my Microtek scanner, I got a message box from XP that it was not a signed driver. I chose to bypass the warning and install it. It worked fine. There was no need for a registry hack.

I think the problem being referred to here is not because of Windows, but the scanner software. Alternatively, there are tools in XP to fool the software into thinking it is loaded on another OS.
