I was having the same problem playing max payne. i have never played the other games. turned out to be that the game was locking up because of my sound card. I had an mx300. After buying a new card it works fine. If this is the case I think you should go back to where you got it and demand they give you a good deal on an upgrade card. Hope this helps.
