I'm afraid that, once more, I have some tragic news.

Jim McNally has passed away.

He died suddenly and unexpectedly last summer, leaving behind him his wife, Suzy, and his beloved young children, Patrick and Heather.

So far as I have been able to establish, Jim was only in his mid-thirties and he died in early August, probably just after his last post here.

This was on the 9th August and, perhaps fittingly, was paying tribute to Tuff:

In response to marti (In response to 13)

Amen, Marti.

My condolences to Tuff's family and loved ones,

Jim

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I really don't need to tell many of you about Jim, who was an avid fan of "Pompey" - Portsmouth Football Club.

Jim was a prolific poster here, a keen UD member and an exceptionally helpful man, well known for his both his knowledge and his kindness. Someone who with patience, tact and wit would doggedly pursue members' problems until they were solved.

For anyone who might want to in learn a little more about Jim and his family, his partially completed web site - which will now forever remain that way -includes some evocative pictures of his last holiday in Crete. It can be viewed here:

http://www.google.com/url?sa=U&start=2&q=http://www.btinternet.com/~james.mcnally5/&e=7168

I'm personally devastated by this shocking news and, although I could go on and on about Jim McNally, I will say my own goodbye by posting this photograph of Jim, in life, enjoying himself with his son Patrick.

It was taken, I think by Suzy, on the 3rd August, 2003, at Southsea Show - close by where he lived.:

Farewell Jim...........Rest in peace......Mitch

Thank you ukmitch. I am devastated! Although I don't post much, I have been reading here for many years (Winmag, PC911, and now PCQand A). I may be quiet, but I feel such a loss recently with the demise of good friends. Hey, many of us are getting on in health issues and age.

This is very sad news. I always admired his posting style - mcnallyjp was a true gentleman and set an example that would serve many to follow.

I'll miss his contributions greatly, as I have for months.

His undisguised love for his family and children will serve them well in the future I'm sure.

Rest in Peace.

I had wondered about Jim. We corresponded on several issues here and offline. I thought perhaps something else had diverted him.

Very sad to hear.....

ooooh, nooooo!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
he joked with someone once about how he tried to get one big thing done every day so that it looked like he had done something besides hang out with us here... (sad smile)
he shared his life and family with us. his was a truly wise, kind and expansive soul. just a nice nice guy...
among other things, he used to post about the "little" things, and the pleasure he had in them made you realize they were the real staff of life...
RIP, McNally JP.
Jeez - you fear the worse but you carry on hoping.
Jim was definitely one of the good guys and always went the extra nine yards to help anyone if he could and I for one will miss him.
It's a strange situation that occurs when peoples families know very little about their life online and never realise that there are considerable numbers of people who consider themselves good friends who are left in limbo when this happens. Thanks for taking this on Mitch - it can't be easy trying to find news, on you or the family, but it is sorely needed.
RIP Jim McNally.
Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to know Jim, but I know my Dad considered him a friend. May he join Dad in keeping an eye on all of his friends. I would like to pass along my condolences to his family, as he did to ours upon the loss of my beloved Father. Rest in Peace, Jim, and may those most deeply affected by his passing find the strength to carry on. Sincerely, Bob Jr.
