OKey, having read all of the above and agreeing with all of it...Why not record your CDs off the sound system in the computer. Caertainly the sound going to the speakers is recordable. Take a line level feed from your sound board to the line input of a burner....
What I suppose the arguement against this is because of signal purity and, of course, there would be some........
