564502, Firefox cookie settings
Posted by jea, Mon Sep-18-17 06:25 PM
I use Firefox and have it set in private browsing mode. I like set it to accept cookies (always), accept third party cookies (never). The bank I use will not let me pay bills unless I accept third party cookies. Is there any way to set Firefox to accept third party cookies from just one site? I can log in to the bank with the third party cookie setting as never and then when I go to pay bills change the setting in Firefox to always accept third party cookies (without closing Firefox), and then reset to never when I am finished, but was wondering if there is a better way. Thanks.

Your bank is using some third-party site for the bill pay, you need to figure out what that site is. Look at the Firefox address bar when you navigate to bill pay, you should be able to see the domain name. Once you know that, you can go into the Firefox Privacy settings and look for the Exceptions button to the right of where you are changing Cookie settings. There you can add the domain for the Bill Pay and set it to always Allow.

Thanks Ttech. I tried that and it just doesn't work. Keep getting a message that cookies are disabled and must enable third party cookies to use bill pay. As you suggested, I enabled cookies, third party cookies, logged in to bill pay, copied and pasted the address into Exceptions-Allow. unchecked Allow cookies, third party cookies.Signed out of the bill pay site, signed back in----get the same message saying I have to enable third party cookies. Can't figure out why it doesn't work.

When I look at the web address in Exceptions, only part of it (address) shows, even though I copied and pasted it.

Probably just the root. You may have to do more digging. Try enabling third-party cookies and logging in. Then look at the list of cookies in Firefox to see if there is anything else there that might go with the bill pay.

Ttech, I enabled third party cookies and logged in to the bank and then bill pay. Without closing the site, I checked Cookies in Firefox options and there were none listed. Weird.

I don't know the particulars of Firefox cookie handling, but all you need is the top domain. It could be redirecting to any number of sub-domains, so copying the whole thing wouldn't work. So it would look like:

https://billpay.com

Thanks BobG, I tried the main bank site address and that doesn't work either. Guess I am stuck with enabling third party cookies...unless I change banks !

Ttech and BobG, I called the bill pay customer service and they gave me two addresses to enter in the Cookies, Exceptions, and also in the Block Pop ups Exceptions.
Thanks for your help.

had a heck of a time posting here with cookies disabled. but now added PCQ&A to exceptions, allow. Actually learned a bit about Firefox settings with all this.
