The right screws usually come with the case or the board. Any computer shop will have handfulls to give away.
Going without standoffs is risky, as you may short out the board.
AS I previously indicated I used the standoffs that came with the case. They were the ones that had threaded holes in them in which to install the screws that attach the motherboard. I was thinking of testing the components outside of the case.
