Altap Salamander 4.0 - Freeware

Altap Salamander is a fast and reliable two-panel file manager for Windows. It has an intuitive interface, offers viewers for all popular file formats as well as support for common archives, and has built-in FTP and SFTP clients.

Thanks to the merge Altap with Fine company now free of charge.

My go to file manager - forever (well, ever since Norton Commander, DOS, went out of fashion). (I have only looked at this 4.0 - for an instant, so far.)

4.0 is Win7 & up.
3.0.8 supports XP (& is pay).

The mind is a funny thing - 2005 sounds like yesterday, but the people in that thread feel like a few lifetimes ago.

So you want a little update...

Salamander, always.
Mozilla (SeaMonkey, not FF)
Vim, still
LeechFTP, essentially no longer used - if I need FTP, I do it through Salamander
Locate long ago switched over to "Everything", https://www.voidtools.com/
Eudora, still
Win32Pad, still
Compression, no GUI (except every so often through Salamander), otherwise only command-line, 7-zip or Arj (generally), less often, Zip (Info-Zip)
Renamer, varies, depending on needs, Lupas, still, otherwise Advanced Renamer or Bulk File Renamer
Media, MPlayer with MPUI's GUI
Net Transport, still
CLCL Clipboard, still
Password Corral, still (but more often simply a text file that I stick stuff into)
Otherwise, most of those utilities, devices, I no longer use

More recent regulars...

Process Hacker, always open
ChatZilla, chat client
Everything, always open
Salamander, always open
SeaMonkey, always open
command-line prompts, always open

Sysinternals & Nirsoft utilities
Duplicate files, AllDup & Duplicate Cleaner are the two best, IMHO
Sandboxie, not used on a regular basis, but when checking out unknown programs...
(Sandboxie fairly recently was picked up by Sophos, I think it was, & they seem to be in a total state of utter disarray, & I have no confidence in them now.)
Unix, any number of gnuwin32 Unix utilities

Thanks for that blast from the past.

Still using from that thread:-

Iconoid (runs at startup)
SpywareBlaster
IrfanView
CCleaner (with caution)

My file manager of choice is and has been for many years xplorer2. Two panes, and each pane can carry multiple tabs. I paid for mine, but the free lite version is pretty good, as is the support, if required. However I readily acknowledge that there are many other good ones out there

Oh, yeah, right, that too.
Couldn't live without it.
(Can't stand the thumbnails & default context menus that Win7 display.)

Hmmm! MalwareBytes claims that website may have a Trojan and won't allow me access.

I use the free Malwarebytes so I don't have the "site protection".of the paid version.

But I just activated the "14 day Premium" trial version and then tried to visit the site.

I got this message
Quote:
Can’t connect securely to this page

This might be because the site uses outdated or unsafe TLS security settings. If this keeps happening, try contacting the website’s owner.

but nothing about a Trojan.

A scan of the actual Taskbar Tweaker came up clean - "No threats detected".

There is a fix for the dbviewer plugin, https://forum.altap.cz/viewtopic.php?p=68092#p68092.
Download, extract its' contents somewhere, then overwrite the existing files (correct bitness), respective locations in Salamander's installation directory (so some place like; programfiles/salamander/plugins/dbviewer/ ...).

Separately,a free key for Salamander version 3.08 (needed for XP users), https://forum.altap.cz/viewtopic.php?p=68440#p68440.
