The old axiom(?) - "If it won't compute, you must reboot." - probably applies. Or, sometimes simply logging off and then back on will do.

Once in awhile, not all my hidden icons appear. Logging on and off generally gets them to display.

Even when not shown, the missing icons' programs seem to be running as I can't try to start a program manually without getting a popup notice that the program is already open.

So. bottom line, something probably "glitched" during bootup and was loaded correctly on reboot.
