I blew it!. Got Black screen with all kinds of information. I proceeded to do a re-install and after completing I had forgotten this was a Vista laptop. I downloaded the win 7 iso and tried to find the install tool but it is no longer available.
Anybody have a copy of this tool to install win7 using a USB stick?

If you have the ISO file, you can use Rufus to write it to a USB flash drive to make a bootable install.

I had downloaded Rufus recently and went through the installation of the 7 OS onto my USB. When I went to install on my to be 7 machine it did not have UFI capability. In frustration I tried another method and again had some problems. Restarting Rufus I read the FAQ and it described how to change the format to MBR with BIOS as the target.
After a couple of tries on my to be 7 machine where I had to do a custom install it seemed to work. It looks like it kept the Vista OS but that is OK.
