For your purpose almost any 9 volt battery will do. You will only use it rarely so by the time you need it, you will have lost it anyway, at least I would have. lol

I'd get an alkaline battery - they've got a long shelf life.

You do know that you don't keep it plugged in when the car battery is installed and/or the engine is running, right?
