Mr. Lieberman is a Democratic senator from Connecticut.

And an ex-vice-presidential candidate on the Democratic ticket of 2000.

That proves that a Democrat does not have to be in lock step with the Democratic party to survive and in fact thrive. On some issues, Senator Leiberman votes his conscience and votes along with the party from across the aisle, but he also votes with his own party. He is his own man and I respect him for it. I, though being a Democrat, personally do not agree with a lot of his politics, and I agree with Republican Senator John McCain quite often. If Senators McCain and Leiberman ran against each other in the 2008 presidential election, there is a high chance that I would vote Republican (as I have done occasionally in the past).
