For your purpose almost any 9 volt battery will do. You will only use it rarely so by the time you need it, you will have lost it anyway, at least I would have. lol
I'd get an alkaline battery - they've got a long shelf life.
You do know that you don't keep it plugged in when the car battery is installed and/or the engine is running, right?

She should remove it after the new battery is installed.

Some newer vehicles don't need those now, it'll be outlined in the owners manual if you'll loose settings with the battery disconnected.

HI THANKS......that was the first thing i did when i thought of another battery, the only thing in the manual under battery changing is a page about the remote battery changing......the dealer also says that if the car battery is not backed up I'll lose all settings in my particular car and every thing will have to be re-programmed...... :) but i have the backup plug :)
