New Entry for Webster's 2008 Dictionary

Electile Dysfunction : the inability to become aroused over any of the choices for president put forth by either party in the 2008 election year.

C'mon, John. ;-)

I'll agree, as far as the Republicans are concerned things couldn't be more flaccid.

But even us old white men (at least those who aren't afraid of new friends and lovers) gotta get up over this. The only question is, "Is America grown up enough?"

The world watches anxiously.

Well, you had to know that sooner or later they would revoke the day pass.

Maybe someone tipped them off to the lunacy you were posting here.

Look at it this way -- you'll be much better off back on the meds in a nice little padded room all to yourself.

Feel better soon...

I really don't want to elect a President just because it would be a first. At the moment, I am leaning towards McCain. He is his own person, and does not necessarily toe the party line. And, I honestly believe he has the needed experience, especially in foreign affairs.

We could live with McCain -- but can the Republicans?

After all, he's neither a religious fanatic or a xenophobe.

The latter is one of the reasons I voted for McCain in the SC Republican Primary. Another reason was to vote against Huckabee.

That's exactly what I did in the Michigan primary. He's a decent man and the most qualified of the Republican contenders to be president.

Yep: a war-mongerer par excellence'.

By that do you mean he pisses on the legislative carpet every once in a while by co-sponsoring a bill that digs at the Republican position on an issue?
Nonetheless, in the end, he votes a straight Republican ticket for the enabling legislation?

He's a warmonger who would, like Dubya, waste more lives in a losing "War".
Certainly you understand that by now?

I believe he is of the mold of Teddy Roosevelt - "Speak softly, but carry a big stick".

I also believe that there is no such thing as a winning war; we all walk away diminished. We care about our losses, but there are some that do not.

I do not believe that President Bush was right in invading Iraq.

I do believe that McCain, having lived the life of a warrior, is in a better position to make that (war) decision. I think he understands the ramifications of such a decision better than any other candidate.

McCain's experience and skills as a Pilot has never been called into question.
Nor has his suffering as a POW.

None of which makes him either an exemplar of anything but courage.
Certainly he is neither statesman nor diplomat.

His sorry record vis-à-vis (others) human rights make him a demagogue and war-monger first class.

While I don't support McCain for President, at least he's one of the few Republican candidates willing to publicly state that we should *NOT* be using torture. Unlike other candidates (*cough* Giuliani *cough*) who think that torture is simply "intensive questioning" and is thus perfectly acceptable, McCain knows personally what torture entails. He knows that it is not something that the United States should ever engage in.

By the way, James was that picture of Hillary from her high school days or after she met Bil.I guess the former.Living with Bill would age any woman!(Especially if married to him )
I can live with Obama as the first Black President but have trouble with a gal like her as the first women President.Surely we could do better there.}( Suggestions ? :+

Hey, John, do I detect a tiny bit of male-chauvinistic double standardism creeping in there?

What about the male candidates?: When Rudy grins he looks like one of the extras from the movie The Night Of The Living Dead, and recently retired Fred could easily be mistaken for a beached elephant seal. Need I go on?

Hillary's still pretty cute in comparison, and besides, she's the smartest and toughest of the bunch. I wouldn't want to run into her in a political dark alley.

Far from it ,my friend.I promoted two of my secretaries. and three others who worked for me, to management positions when it was hardly the norm .I am very proud of the progress my daughter has made with a large telephone company.I believe there are too few women in high positions. We guys have not left a great record for them to follow .Not to use the skill and knowledge of more than half of our population is a waste !My earliest, and hard to forget, impression of Hillary was when she was on television giving her "Sargent Schultz" explaination of how she made money in the futures market. She looked cute then (But not very bright) I was expecting her to say it was eating Tyson chicken that made her so smart !If it were possible I would much prefer Noreen over Hillary for President.Bright Intelligent, and Trustworthy !!Qualities sadly lacking in Hillary. The most used adjective for her is "tough"! :+ Iwould add "mean " :+

You've made Noreen sound like a Labrador retriever.

And, c'mon, John, even Hillary's worst critics (excluding you, of course) will admit she's a brain trust when it comes to policy. Her stint as senator has proved her to be a skillful legislator and a surprisingly good conciliator -- she does her homework and keeps her ear to the ground. And bright... Unlike W. she reads both books without pictures and something other than the comics and sports sections in newspapers -- and, as a bonus, I hear she even waits until the sun sets before going to bed.

And your presidents should be tough and a little diabolical -- after all, Russia's latest czar, Putin, ain't no pussycat.

Trustworthy... Well, as with most politicians, you just gotta keep an eye open for wooden nickels. (BTW, what was the personal lie count to war by that other guy? 256?).

Plus, she's got Bill! And won't that be fun...

Admit it, you're just jealous.

James

Are you capable of flying a fighter aircraft? The reason I ask is I think it takes few brain cells to fly an aircraft let alone a fighter aircraft.

We do not need this country being led by a Clinton nor a Bush. We need new names in the Presidency other than Clinton or Bush. I think from 1988 to 2008 is enough of a Bush or a Clinton in the Whitehouse. Just because we have had two Bushes in the Presidency that does not mean we have to have two Clintons in the Presidency.

I will vote for the person I feel who will do the best for the country not his or her party. I might be classified as an independent DemoRep. This why I have always considered Harry S Truman a truly great President, he chose to do what was best for America, such as recognizing Israel, against the advise if his party, and his cabinet advisors. He integrated the military against the advise of his party leaders. He fired McArthur against the will of the nation. President Truman was not concerned about his place in history nor his legacy as a President.

We no longer have leaders like him in politics today nor do we have them in the corporate world.

No, I can't even drive a car, except maybe into the ditch.

I can fly a kite.

If you're referring to W. on patrol over Texas, he must have been up there too high too long without oxygen, because when he came back down he was unable to find his way to his next duty assignment.

But, yeah, old Harry was quite a guy!

Nah it only takes great eyesight, a superb inner ear and the ability to learn to operate in a 3-D environment.
Don't brag on McCain's piloting skills:
after all Dubya was a fighter pilot (F-104), and using him as the benchmark further goes to prove becoming a fighter pilot really only takes a pair of hands with oppossing thumbs

I hate to tell you it takes little bit more than that, but of course you were already aware it also takes a keen mind to fly a fighter aircraft, many military pilots hold master degrees, many military pilots are aeronautical engineers. It also takes certain amount of coolness under pressure to recover from an emergency. To handle high “G” forces requires one to be in good physical shape.

Bush was honorably discharged from the Air National Guard in October 1973 at the rank of first lieutenant. An ANG physical dated 15 May 1971 indicates that he had logged 625 flight hours by that time, and he ultimately completed 326 hours as pilot and 10 as co-pilot while serving with the 111th FIS in Texas.

I made light of "what it takes" in that the skills are mostly perceptual, as opposed to mental.
Strapping on a fighter makes you one with it and your abilities are its virtues and vice-versa.

I am reminded that nearly 100% of all airline pilots were once military pilots, the huge mass of them earning their degrees while in the military, "Free" educations we taxpayers paid for.

Agreed; which makes them first and foremost, as I have noted, physical exemplars, not necessarily mental giants, though most of them are both better educated and better pilots than say a Charles Lindberg or Dick Bong.

In my many years on this planet,I can say I never ever was jealous of a politician! What few momentsI can recall, when the"green monster"took over my mind, the incident was caused by a guy dating a gal who seemed "out of my league"That ended when I learned tht no one was totally "out of my league"That is why I was 27 before I met my wife who was "out of my league".I persisted and was luckey enough to convince her that I might be in her league(I owe most of my successes in life to her).
Hillary, to me ,is a cold calculating women .I guess you have to be a bit caloused and full of crap to be successful in politics .Her latest TV ads here in California promise us lower gas prices, and health care for all etc etc.She screwed up health care in Bills term and she damn sure has no chance of affecting gas prices. There are a lot smarter and established politicians who would have done that by now .Accomplishing that would be an automatic election ticket. When I was a kid a company gave out wooden nickels that you could turn in for a double decker ice cream cone.Even wooden nickles had their day.I hope Hillary has had hers for now.Unless lots of things change, I hope to have the opportunity to vote for Obama !! :+

Hers a Statement from Ralph Nader
"By reappointing avid Republican Alan Greenspan, chairman of the Federal Reserve, Mr. Clinton assured no attention would be paid to the visible precursors of what is now the sub-prime mortgage crisis. Mr. Greenspan declined to use his regulatory authority and repeatedly showed that he almost never saw a risky financial instrument he couldn't justify."
