Went grocery shopping the other day and bought some Dannon yogurt that were on sale. I stood there looking at my favorite yogurt with a cockeyed look and then it dawned on me they actually reduced the size! And sure enough when i came home and looked on at the last container in my refigerator, they went down from 8 oz. to 6 oz. HEY! What GIVES! What is this world coming to when they jip you out of 2 oz. on your favorite yogurt??

That's what is called a silent price increase.They have done the same with ice cream.

Yogurt maker explains why serving was cut

Dear Martin: I have been a Dannon yogurt customer for 18 years. However, on a recent trip to the supermarket I was shocked to find the company had downsized my favorite variety from 8 ounces to 6 ounces, and the price had not changed. Over these many years, I have endured price increases without complaint because I understand that the cost of ingredients rises. The most disturbing thing about Dannon's downsizing is that 8 ounces was just right to satisfy my appetite. The 6 ounces don't do it. The size of the cup is almost the same, and Dannon's claim that more space is left in the top of the container to add ingredients makes me think Dannon does not want consumers to notice the downsizing. Was Dannon afraid customers would not continue to buy their yogurt if they raised the price? They might have been pleasantly surprised.

Dear Cynthia: You are correct. The contents have been reduced by 25 percent, but the size of the cup is almost the same. A Dannon spokesperson told me the new 6-ounce size is based on research showing that consumers prefer smaller portions so they can have yogurt as a snack or as part of a meal. "For most of our users, the 8-ounce size was a little too much," said the spokesperson. I asked about the pricing: "We have reduced the price charged to the stores by 15 percent to 20 percent, and we want retailers to pass these savings along to our customers."
