43166, Hard Drive For Sale
Posted by _Chewy_, Wed Sep-03-03 05:25 PM
I have a brand new Maxtor HDD that i'd like to sell. Before i go through the trouble of posting it on E Bay, i'd like to give you guys first crack at it since there are a lot of PC enthusiasts here.

Maxtor 80 GB HDD
ATA 100
rpm 7200
8 MB Cache
Installation kit includes:
IDE cable
screws
Maxtor Blast CD
Owners manual.

There is nothing wrong with it. After i bought this one, i saw a great deal on a 200 GB drive that was too hard to pass up, so this has been sitting in the closet waiting for a nice home. It's still in the original box. The UPC code has been removed for rebate purposes but i'll be willing to include my purchase receipt to the final buyer as proof of purchase and date.

If interested, PM me or post here w/ your offer. Thanks!

I would rather you state what you want/need out of it to break even. If you want a sealed bidding war I think Ebay would be better suited for that.

If you're not interested, don't make an offer. Move on - it's that simple. I don't need a lecture on what to post or not post considering we have the likes of ElPaz and Chattan posting their BS on this board.

You don't want a sealed bidding war?? Hmmm... i see how that works. Moderators have more privileges and can post used laptops for sale but regular joes don't have that luxury eh? Alright then - let's just say i paid $80 for it and you can post your offer right on this thread 4 everyone to see. How does that appeal to you Myk?

And what moderator objected to your post? The answer is none. We don't object to a regular member offering something for sale here. If someone did it every week, we might get upset, no one is going to run a business here.

If someone registered here and tried to sell something in their first post. We would get ticked, and delete the post along with their membership. We have had software salesmen do just that.

So I respectfully suggest you don't start attacking your moderators for something they didn't even do. When Alex sold his old laptop here, it was not to make a profit, but to offer a nice bargain to a member who might need it. To the best of my knowledge, no other moderator has ever sold anything here. And had you been around long enough, you would know that Alex has given away a lot of goodies here to anyone who needed them.

I wasn't attacking Alex for selling his laptop. Nor did i insinuate that he made an unfair profit from it. I merely used it as an example to show Myk that members have done so w/out rebuke from other forum members or being lectured on what is 'proper' or not proper.

LOL
A bit touchy aren't we?

"I'm making this offer to you guys first because I like you. Send me your sealed bids."
Sounds a bit fake to me. Sounds more like, "I bought this, I got a rebate, I'm hoping to get more than I paid for it AND beat the cut that Ebay would take."

"I have something and I'll take $X for it or it goes to Ebay" would sound a bit more genuine to me.
Sort of like giving your "buy it now" or "minimum bid" price to see if you have any takers, giving them a deal and keeping Ebay out of it.

Did the moderators do an Ebay type bidding with a laptop here? No.
If one did and I saw it I would've said the same thing as I did to you. However if they posted a laptop for people here to have a chance at before it went to Ebay that would be different.
Going back to that post and checking the link inside it clearly shows, "asking price for this entire package with everything pictured and described: US$500" The original ad wasn't even posted here, the thread was calling attention to that ad.
So don't feed me no lines.

But if the moderators did decide to do that, my opinion would be just that, my opinion. If they wanted to allow everyone to do that or make a special rule for themselves that is their prerogative.
If you don't like my opinion, just like I don't have to make an offer (which as you can see I didn't), you don't have to adjust your selling strategy. It is just the opinion of another user here.

$80 I would've considered if the answer to LilJoe's question was the correct one and shipping wasn't going to be too high.

>The bag, the bag, we want to know about the bag.

MSU, the hard drive was take out of the anti-static bag once as i took it out to inspect it. But it was never hooked up to a computer. It's in the 'original' factory state with no data written on it. I've put it back in the anti-static bag and the box has been sitting in my closet since i bought it.

Certainly if someone offers me $80 - i'd include shipping charges in it. But as with all things in life - everything is negotiable.

Myk, i could care less whether it's a sealed bid or an open bid. You're the one that implied that i wanted a sealed bid. When i said people could PM me, i just did that for the sake of spelling out the options available for any potential buyers.

As far as your quote:

>"I'm making this offer to you guys first because I like you.
>Send me your sealed bids."
>Sounds a bit fake to me. Sounds more like, "I bought this, I
>got a rebate, I'm hoping to get more than I paid for it AND
>beat the cut that Ebay would take."

Well that's a nice interpreation. Don't pretend to be smart ass with me and put words in my mouth. you've got quotation marks wrapped around those sentences as if i actually posted that nonsense. I never said 'i like you... send me your sealed bids....'

You got your ass so far shoved up your ass, you should really seek medical attention for it. Or just blow out of your nose real hard and hope the air pressure does the trick. Listen for that 'pop' Myk.

>"I have something and I'll take $X for it or it goes to Ebay"
>would sound a bit more genuine to me.

Go play armchair psychiatrist with someone else who's got the time to listen to your BS. What's genuine to you or not doesn't matter one hill of beans difference if you're just gonna post your 'commentaries' or lame 'interpretations'.

Like it or not this is the internet. I don't know you. You've only been around here for less than a year so I really don't even know much of anything about you.
Although your response here tells me a lot about you. And I suspect that since you got so defensive about it that my original suspicions were correct.

Quotations doesn't mean you said something, and if anyone had the ability to use their brain and read the context that was used they could tell that wasn't saying you said that.
When I'm actually copy/paste quoting someone I put it in italics.

Like I insinuated above, had you given a price you could've had a sale less than 2 hours after you posted. Even though Office Max has them for $70 after rebates, it would've saved having to wait for the 2 rebate checks.
But because you are an asshole I wouldn't buy shit from you if I was constipated for a month.

Yeah right buddy. You're a disgrace to this forum. When you manage to extract your head out of your ass, take a good look in the mirror.

Posted by Myk, Fri Sep-05-03 03:13 AM
See Mesg #3, then tell me who's the disgrace.
Methinks thou dost protest too much. The only way I could've struck a nerve this badly is if you had that nerve exposed. Even if it's not true, your protests sure are making it seem more and more like it is.

Look at what you've turned the thread into because I stated my opinion of "I would rather you state what you want/need out of it to break even. If you want a sealed bidding war I think Ebay would be better suited for that."
Like you said, you should've ignored it if you didn't like it. If you didn't want to give an asking price then you didn't have to. Just like I didn't have to make an offer if you didn't, or if you decided to be a jerk about it like you did.

If you'd like to continue this in a thread that you claim you want closed I will gladly continue. You are already into re-runs with your "head up your ass" fetish so I highly doubt if you are impressing anyone with your quick wit.

You truly are an asswipe Myk. If you could manage to stop putting words in my mouth and playing your armchair pscyhologist routine on me, maybe just maybe you'd be worth my time. I realized i just wasted 'bout 20 minutes of my time replying to you on this thread.

I stated the thread could be locked LAST night, and since that hasn't happened, I sure wasn't about to let you take a pot shot and not say anything about it.
43415, RE: Hard Drive For Sale
Posted by Myk, Fri Sep-05-03 03:31 PM
This is what I see happened here.

I asked for an asking price. I'm not about to offer you more than you paid for something, you are not a business with overhead. If you want that go to Ebay where you will have overhead. You went off.
LilJoe asked if the drive had been opened. You went off.

You claim we both ruined your thread. The way I see it, the only thing we ruined was your ability to sell a used drive as a new drive and to sell that used drive for more than you paid for it. The only thing getting ruined here, right or wrong, is your reputation because you are continuing to drag this out.

Just like 100% of the scammers I know in real life, I think the reason you are going off is to cover up the fact that you got caught. Call it armchair psychology if you want, I call it life experience.

If you weren't out to pull a scam. When I asked for an asking price you would've gave one, no problem.
When LilJoe asked if the drive was opened, you would've answered, no problem.
But instead we get, "WTG - Myk & Lil Joey. You're real champs."
There is only one reason you would have a problem with those two questions. That reason may or may not be true, but you continuing this is not convincing me otherwise.
If it's not true, the next time you want to sell something and get asked questions about the product either ignore the questions or answer them. Accept the fact that you made a wrong turn this time.

If you want to continue your foul mouthed flaming, I will continue to point out that there is only one reason you would be doing that.

With all my posts you have not been able to come with a decent arguement and instead you like to write worthless drivel since you apparently aren't intelligent enought to come up with a cogent argument. While there are many here that don't agree with what I say, at least they do so in a more respectful manner. Your ad hominmem attacks detract from the argument and the logic of the situation. My post's B.S? Trying proving it with facts.

As for messing up your so-called thread, you did that by your earlier smart ass remarks and foul mouth.

Chewy, you seem to be getting very upset with everyone in this thread, and still have answered the man's question about the anti-static bag. Perhaps if you gave him an answer then everyone would calm down and you could get back to the business of selling your hard drive - which is what you wanted in the first place.

Chances of that are slim and none and slim just walked out the door. As convoluted as this thread has become i doubt anyone will wade through the pile of sh*t in this thread.

Actually i was doing ok until i read Myk's 2nd posting and his 'armchair psychologist' interpretation of my posting. WTG - Myk & Lil Joey. You're real champs.
