Posted by Kiwi2022, Tue Oct-05-04 04:24 PM

Lets Go Cardinals......

"The St. Louis Cardinals had baseball's best record at 105-57. Today they will open the National League playoffs against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Cardinals ran away in the NL Central, finishing 13 games ahead of the wild card Houston Astros, and falling one win shy of the franchise record for victories set in 1942. They will start Woody Williams (11-8) in the series opener.

The Dodgers (93-69) clinched the NL West title in dramatic fashion Saturday, scoring seven ninth-inning runs in a 7-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants. Steve Finley capped the rally with a grand slam."

GO CARDINALS!!

Help me root my Cardinals on please.... gotta beat those Dodgers!!

Cardinals Beat Dodgers!!"

Boy did we ever!! *big smile*

ST. LOUIS -- Just like Jake and Elwood Blues, the Cardinals got the band back together just in time. With all eight regular position players in the starting lineup for the first time since Sept. 10, St. Louis blitzed Los Angeles for an 8-3 win in Game 1 of their National League Division Series.

We hit five homers today!!
What an exciting game.... :clap: :P :clap:

SWEET SWEET SWEET!!

Hot Damn is right!! WOW, what a great game! A bit on the edge of your seat there for awhile, but what a perfect ending. :clap: :clap: :clap: :clap: :clap:

Lil' Joe, I didn't wet my panties...lol...but you had to hear me as I have came home and have no voice!

Yarddaawg...told ya there'd be no bye bye birdie tonight!! :P

And yep Hugo, tomorrow night we have our work cut out for us as I know Rocket Roger will be tough but I have faith and I really believe that St. Louie is gonna do it this time! *fingers crossed*

It was icing on the cake coming home and hearing on the radio that Johnny Damon hit that grand slam and the score was Red Sox 6 and the Yankees 0 :evilgrin: }( All kidding aside I realize how heartbreaking it can be when your teams loses. It got very quiet when the Astros tied us tonight... losing it would have been a heartbreaker!

Great day today!! Wakko, you ain't wrong, "Thank You Jimmy Edmonds!! :* :* :*

This kid is worn out, lots of emotions at this game and to think I gotta go do it tomorrow too. *grins*
I ran off and forgot my camera but I will try and get one good picture to share with you all tomorrow evening when we win! :P :clap: ;-)

Jan,

As your UK rep...... are the Cardinals winning then?

The BBC TV news broadcast this morning said at the end of the 'sports updates'....
......"oh and by the way, Boston Red Sox beat New York Yankees in the World series!"
Is that good or bad? :)

What's the next stage?

Andy.

andy,
wheeeeeeew!!!!! :-)

the world series 2004 starts Sat.

last nite boston beat the yankees, and so far the Curse of Babe Ruth, for the American League title. boston hasn't won a series since 1918. that's the Curse of the Babe.

the Yankees are Boston's arch-enemies and have been for years, due to the Curse and it's many effects: trades, inexplicable foul-ups, and fate.

here's one of the most famous:

http://www.sportingnews.com/baseball/25moments/8.html

an outstanding player, and an easy catch bounces thru his legs during the WORLD SERIES!!!

anyway, to answer your question, and not to move in on Jan:

tonite the St. Louis Cardinals play the Houston Astros to see who wins the National League title. both teams have won 3 games, and been playing some GLORIOUS baseball.

tonite's winner will play Boston.

~~~~~~
sorry i derailed this thread with Boston history. i came over to wish the Cards the best of Luck!!! hope to see ya at Fenway!!!!! WOOOT WOOT!!!!! :+ :+ :+
NOT TODAY
Busch Stadium is not our house.
So I will not waste your time this morning talking about the importance of the Cardinals protecting our house in Game 6 of the NLCS. I will not broach the obscentity of seeing Houston players spilling champagne on ourliving-room carpet.
Busch Stadium is not our house.
It's much more important than that.
It's where many of us watched our first game, caught our first foul ball, begged for our first autograph.
It's where Gibby ruled the mound, where Brock ran like the wind, and where Ozzie made all the folks go crazy.
It's where the El Birdos dominated, where Sutter struck out the last batter of 1982, where Mike Shannon has worked since the joint opened in 1966.
The Ol' Redhead managed there. Stan the Man played his harmonica there.
The White Rat led us back to glory there.
This is where Gussie drove the Clydesdales, where Willie McGee tracked down fly balls, where Joaquin Andujar summed up his philosophy of life in one simple word: Youneverknow.
This is where Big Mac smacked No. 70, where Tommy Lawless flipped his bat, where "GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY...BRUMMER'S STEALING HOME"!!!!!!!
This is where the greatest St. Louis team in Busch Stadium's history performed. That's right, the 2004 Cardinals. They had the best home-record, the best record in baseball. Right on that field.
Ted Simmons played there. Kenny Boyer managed there. And a beloved old man in a bright red jacket told a mournful nation why it was good and right to play baseball after Sept. 11.
My friends, Jack Buck's coffin rested on that field. Daryl Kile pitched his last game there. And many of us cannot walk into that stadium without thinking of loved ones who are no longer with us.
Not today.
We don't lose today.
Not against the Houston Astros. Not against a pitcher named Roger Clemens.
Not against a wild-card team.
Not in Busch Stadium.
No, it's not our house.
It's simply the place where our memories congregate, where our baseball dreams are stored, where the voices of millions of fans and the ghosts of seasons past await their call to arms.
Folks, it's time to wake 'em up.
Something I thought I would share with my fellow Cardinal fans. *smiles* Pretty touching I'd say....
__________________________________________________________________
As it turns out I will be around tonight here cheering my Cards on because being the sweet mom I am and "Lord it was tough"..lol but I gave my ticket to my son for his 17th birthday tomorrow so he can take his best buddy! Truly, I'm kidding it felt real nice doing that and I know how much he loves and appreciates me for it by the million dollar smile on his face and the big hug and kiss I received when I said "here is a little extra birthday gift"! The smiles on their faces were priceless. ;-) I've had a lot of good memories, it's their turn. :-)
Enjoy the game folks....
I'm one of the old Knot Hole Gang from the forties,where at the old Sportsman Park in north St Louis we used to watch the games by peeking thru the knotholes in the wooden fence.
i loved the 2 old guys, esp. the one who predicted that we would win this series here in "19... whatever year it is."
i missed most of the game! zzzzzzzzz. :-( saw a couple of hi-lites after. great beginning for the sox, the cards rose to the challenge, and bellhorn sure stands up under pressure. i like him more and more. and OUCH! the injuries! and yeah, it did look sloppy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

i think the Sox, the cops, or Boston needs to do more for the girl who was killed, like eventually a scholarship or something. people around here are pretty upset about that whole thing. i wouldn't wanna be the kid who was fighting with the cops and whose escalation brought them to that spot en masse and led to the firing of the pepper ball guns, or whatever they're called.

edit: oh, and i forgot to say, Walker was lookin' good for the Cards.
