Hello. My os is xp, and gamecard is NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 . Pentium 4, 512 memory. I have no problems with the computer, but my son's games always freeze up on him. Games like warcraft 3, max payne, gta3. Little shockwave or flash games work fine. I am not computer savvy, and very not game savvy, but am wondering if this card is common for problems. When the computer guy put it together for us, I told him my son would be gaming alot, and it has done this from the beginning. Lately it has him frustrated, as he says it happens all the time. It doesn't make me very happy either, since this is a new computer we've had maybe 6 months. I downloaded the newest nvidia driver last night, and it made no difference in the performance. Am wondering if I should complain to the store where we bought it???? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks very much.
check that he has the most recent drivers from www.nvidia.com i had the same problem with my card freezing up in games, i found out that the drivers on the CD were from 1999.
Dear Jan , I am like your son is A vivid Gammer on here myself . I love my 3d Graphic games my Shockwave games and Just about any other non violent game under the sun that you can think of lol . I too was having the Same freezing up problem As your son is having When I was Playing the More newer games and Even the shockwavegames too. Come to find out It was not the Video cards drivers at all. But your Physical Memeory (aka RAM). I started out w/ 128 MB of Ram here in my Gateway when I first bought it. But soon discovered that Wasnt enuff To pull the "stuff" that I was needing to pull in here . So I upgraded once to 512MB of ram . Still it wasn't enuff. (considering that the XP alone take at least 128 MB to run it, Norton System Works Atleast another 64 to 100 MB of Ram, and so on ) And YOu have to take into consideration that For the newer and more powerful games , like your 3d vidieo Games, Require more system resources and in Turn require more Physical Ram to operate them . Now What I done I took my system back in for the @nd memory Upgrade. And That Time I bumped the RAM Up to 784 MB's of Ram. Now Since I have bumped the Memeory Up to that Level , And Have set the Windows Virtual Memeory to 1282 MB of Ram . I find now that I dont Have no Probs , W/My 3d game playing (by the way some of those newer 3d games requires separate "gaming" drivers, which is separate and different from Video Card Drivers. ) Or anything else that I do on here Such as Run and Operate My high Speed DVD Player, or Listening to my "tunes" As I play my 3d Games. Im trying to explain this to the best that I can and from my expereinces that I have had w/mine . k lol. For All that Fancy Techinal Jukus lol that a puter dummy like me doesnt understand , Ask the Nice Folks at www.pcnineoneone.com They are very friendly there and more than willing to help . Great People there. I hope that this has help you out to some extent. Denim:7
No game I have ever played requires a seperate gaming driver, unless you are referring to the Indeo video system, and thats just for playback of movies. Also, I don't know where you get the notion that 512 MB of RAM is not enough to run every single major game out there. Thats just pure bullshit. 512 MB of RAM (be it DDR or PC100/PC133/PC150) is plenty for running games.
To address the problem at hand, I would take the computer back to where you purchased it from, tell them whats going on, and demand that it be fixed free of charge (after all, if it didn't work to begin with, they sold you something that is broken!).
For I Dont Appprcieate Being Cussed at on here. And For 2 dont take my word for it got to www.wildtangent.com . That is where the 3d games are at that you have to d/ l separate drivers for Mr smart mouth. And you have to d/l Separte Drivers for games at Several other sites too for 3d Games. Now check your facts out And get your info straight b4 you blow your big mouth off . I dont apprcieate the Profanity . At all Denim
That site doesn't say anything about needing seperate drivers. It does state system requirements to play the games, but things like Flash and Java Virtual Machine are not drivers, they are software applications. And if your referring to the "Web Driver", thats just a plugin for IE, not a driver.
Did you Try Playing one of the Free Demos there Midnight if not there At shockwave. Wildtanget has several games at shockwave. too. Try playing one. See if A wild Tagent Driver install dont pop up in your face lol . Denim
As I said, the term "Web DRIVER" is simply a plugin for Internet Explorer, it is NOT a device driver. But thats OK, you go on believing what you want to believe. I'd like to see a list of any REAL games you are currently playing and compare it to my own, and we'll see who has more experience.

You gotta be kidding right? Separate gaming drivers?
