I have a brand new Maxtor HDD that i'd like to sell. Before i go through the trouble of posting it on E Bay, i'd like to give you guys first crack at it since there are a lot of PC enthusiasts here.
Maxtor 80 GB HDD ATA 100 rpm 7200 8 MB Cache Installation kit includes: IDE cable screws Maxtor Blast CD Owners manual.
There is nothing wrong with it. After i bought this one, i saw a great deal on a 200 GB drive that was too hard to pass up, so this has been sitting in the closet waiting for a nice home. It's still in the original box. The UPC code has been removed for rebate purposes but i'll be willing to include my purchase receipt to the final buyer as proof of purchase and date.
If interested, PM me or post here w/ your offer. Thanks!

>I would rather you state what you want/need out of it to >break even. If you want a sealed bidding war I think Ebay >would be better suited for that.
If you're not interested, don't make an offer. Move on - it's that simple. I don't need a lecture on what to post or not post considering we have the likes of ElPaz and Chattan posting their BS on this board.
You don't want a sealed bidding war?? Hmmm... i see how that works. Moderators have more privileges and can post used laptops for sale but regular joes don't have that luxury eh? Alright then - let's just say i paid $80 for it and you can post your offer right on this thread 4 everyone to see. How does that appeal to you Myk?
And what moderator objected to your post? The answer is none. We don't object to a regular member offering something for sale here. If someone did it every week, we might get upset, no one is going to run a business here.
If someone registered here and tried to sell something in their first post. We would get ticked, and delete the post along with their membership. We have had software salesmen do just that.
So I respectfully suggest you don't start attacking your moderators for something they didn't even do. When Alex sold his old laptop here, it was not to make a profit, but to offer a nice bargain to a member who might need it. To the best of my knowledge, no other moderator has ever sold anything here. And had you been around long enough, you would know that Alex has given away a lot of goodies here to anyone who needed them.
"I'm making this offer to you guys first because I like you. Send me your sealed bids." Sounds a bit fake to me. Sounds more like, "I bought this, I got a rebate, I'm hoping to get more than I paid for it AND beat the cut that Ebay would take."
"I have something and I'll take $X for it or it goes to Ebay" would sound a bit more genuine to me. Sort of like giving your "buy it now" or "minimum bid" price to see if you have any takers, giving them a deal and keeping Ebay out of it.
Did the moderators do an Ebay type bidding with a laptop here? No. If one did and I saw it I would've said the same thing as I did to you. However if they posted a laptop for people here to have a chance at before it went to Ebay that would be different. Going back to that post and checking the link inside it clearly shows, "asking price for this entire package with everything pictured and described: US$500" The original ad wasn't even posted here, the thread was calling attention to that ad. So don't feed me no lines.
But if the moderators did decide to do that, my opinion would be just that, my opinion. If they wanted to allow everyone to do that or make a special rule for themselves that is their prerogative. If you don't like my opinion, just like I don't have to make an offer (which as you can see I didn't), you don't have to adjust your selling strategy. It is just the opinion of another user here.
$80 I would've considered if the answer to LilJoe's question was the correct one and shipping wasn't going to be too high.

I wasn't attacking Alex for selling his laptop. Nor did i insinuate that he made an unfair profit from it. I merely used it as an example to show Myk that members have done so w/out rebuke from other forum members or being lectured on what is 'proper' or not proper.

Myk, i could care less whether it's a sealed bid or an open bid. You're the one that implied that i wanted a sealed bid. When i said people could PM me, i just did that for the sake of spelling out the options available for any potential buyers.
As far as your quote:
>"I'm making this offer to you guys first because I like you. >Send me your sealed bids." >Sounds a bit fake to me. Sounds more like, "I bought this, I >got a rebate, I'm hoping to get more than I paid for it AND >beat the cut that Ebay would take."
Well that's a nice interpreation. Don't pretend to be smart ass with me and put words in my mouth. you've got quotation marks wrapped around those sentences as if i actually posted that nonsense. I never said 'i like you... send me your sealed bids....'
You got your ass so far shoved up your ass, you should really seek medical attention for it. Or just blow out of your nose real hard and hope the air pressure does the trick. Listen for that 'pop' Myk.
>"I have something and I'll take $X for it or it goes to Ebay" >would sound a bit more genuine to me.
Go play armchair psychiatrist with someone else who's got the time to listen to your BS. What's genuine to you or not doesn't matter one hill of beans difference if you're just gonna post your 'commentaries' or lame 'interpretations'.
