Hi all, Have an older puter that losses the cd-rom drive on reboot. It shows up fine on a cold boot but consistantly goes away after a warm boot. Running W98SE, 64 mb ram, 4 gig hdd, 120 mhz, amibios.
Seems I have seen a post concerning a similar problem, but not sure how to find it.
Don't find it anywhere in the bios/setup. It IDs the harddrive on primary but no others. Tried setting all to auto, but no luck. Might this be eminating from a bad cable connect? It seems not since it is consistant on the cold boots?
Boot to safe mode. See if you have any duplicate or ghost Cd-Rom drives in Device Manager. Delete all Cd-Rom drives and let Windows redetet them. What OS are you using?
Also check for other duplicate devices, particularily IDE controllers. You should have one Parent IDE device and of course the Primary and Secondary IDE Controllers themselves. Some Intel chipsets add a fourth Ide device. This is OK, you just shouldn't have duplicates.
