"OT -- MY address on a SPAM?!?"

X(

I just received a spam from myself!!

I guess somebody got my address somehow and decided to use it??

Unfortunately it was one of my Excite addresses -- last time I wrote to them (*using their email form*) about login problems, I got an "undeliverable" message!

What can I do to keep my account from being cancelled??

I wouldn't worry too much. I've gotten spam from "myself" also. Some spammers forge the headers of the e-mails they send. This is one reason why you never reply to a spam e-mail. Your reply could go to an innocent bystander. (The other reason being that, if it does go to the spammer, they know the address is in use and put it on the "Live e-mail addy: send more e-mail to" list.)

Silly me... I thought they INVENTED the addys they used!

That was just creepy, seeing my own address... and it's not one that I normally give out a lot, which makes it twice as weird. And if you're going to steal somebody's address, it just seems bizarre to send the "victim" a copy!

You really think Excite will be smart enough to figure out I didn't do this? Things have gotten so automated, I'm afraid if they receive a complaint, they won't look at it very carefully and just dump my account. (Not that I don't have a dozen other addys... but I do have some subscriptions going there that would be a pain in the *** to change.)

Do you think it's safe to report it to the source host in the email header?

Thanks for the "been-there"... I was getting a little freaked out!

I wouldn't report just that one incident,I've had it happen several times from different sources. As far as Excite goes,I doubt they bother to check on that, and if they did they can tell the source isn't from you.Like Jason said just ignore it and let some nut have there fun ,Tuff
