"Last Night Power Failure, Today No Sound"

Last Night there was a two hour power failure. When the power failed the P.C. was on. The monitor was turned off and I wasn't using the speakers. When the power came back on the message came on the monitor to enter my password. I did and used the P.C. for about a half an hour with no speakers on and then shut the P.C. down with no problems. I just turned on the P.C. and loaded a playlist of mp3's, the playlist starts o.k. but no sound. I then tried windows media and same thing, no sound. I have in the past forgot to either turn the speakers on or not turn the volumne up so i checked and the power light is on the speakers and the volumne control on the spekers ive moved but still no sound. The last thing i did was move the speaker volumne control with the mouse on the monitor. So im just wondering if the powere failure last night created this problem or ive overlooked something. Please keep in mind that im a 59 yr old with my first computer and am 1 year into this. thank you

Sometimes the wave output will get turned down, and you won't have sound. You can check that by double clicking the sound icon in the tray, near the clock. It will bring up the settings and take a look to see if anything is turned off there.Good luck,Tuff

Mack, that was it. I thank you, ive learned something today. My case is inside a computer desk. When I pulled the case out I noticed that the cable to the mouse had managed to intwine itself around the speaker cable. That was the first, but im sure not the last time i will ever pull the case out.

Like Al says.

And that's UPS as in Uninterruptible Power Supply not United Parcel Service.
