1 - Double Click "My Computer" > right click "CD Drive" > click "Properties" > click "Autoplay"; for each of the "content type" ("music files", "pictures" etc.) click "Select and action to perform" > click "Take no action" > click "Apply"
3 - Click "Start" > "Programs" > "Powertoys for Windows XP" > "Tweak UI"; click "+" sign on "My Computer", click "+" sign on "Autoplay"; click "Drives", uncheck your CD drive letter, click "Apply"; click "types", uncheck "Enable Autoplay for CD and DVD drives", click "Apply"; AND THE LAST AND ALWAYS FORGOTTEN STEP: click "Handlers", edit EACH of the autoplay handlers, uncheck "All the supported Media" that is checked for each one of the handles, click "OK" for each one too, click "Apply" at the end. 4 - Reboot

I sure don't like that automatic searching for media content. Happens every time a zip disk mounts. (which isn't very often anymore, so I haven't bothered to disable it... yet). I don't recall it ever happening with CDs though, but I always have autorun disabled in the registry.
