"Blinking Cursor"

I have a Sony Vaio Laptop P3-800/256meg ram/20gig/Intel graphics chip. If I use any cursors OTHER THAN the "Windows Default" cursors, the cursor will blink during processor activity. For example, during page-loads on the internet. Looking in the registry, the default cursors do not have a .cur extension but seem to be buried in some system file. I have installed the latest graphics drivers from Intel. There is, however, one way to keep the cursors from blinking. If I open up a file in RealPlayer, and then close RealPlayer, the cursor will not blink. I note that even when RealPlayer is closed, it really isn't closed, Ctl-Alt-Del says it is still an active task. If I cancel RealPlay in this window, the cursor will blink again. I would like to avoid having to leave RealPlayer open, since it has a habit of downloading update requests when I am online. Any thoughts appreciated..pav78

pav78, Open Real Player, click "View",click "Preferences", under the "General" tab click the "Settings" button down at "Start Center", take the checkmark out of "Enable Start Center", click "OK", click "OK" and close Real Player. Your problem should be fixed.

Well, that causes realplayer to close when I close it. But, then the cursor blinks again. I run windows ME on the VAIO. I guess that I will have to put up with RealPlay if I want the cursor to not blink unless anybody else has any suggestions...pav78

pav78, Try right clicking on your desktop "My Computer" icon, click "Properties", under the "Performance" tab click the "graphics" button and move the "Hardware acceleration" one notch to the left, click "OK", click "OK". If one notch to the left doesn't solve the blinking cursor try two, then three, etc.(Do this in one notch increments)until the cursor is stable. If this doesn't solve it just go back in and move the slider back to the far right. Give it a try and Good Luck.

pav78, Just thought of something else. If you have "Comet Cursor" installed it could cause the blinking cursor problem. I suggest uninstalling it because it is known to be SPYWARE. If I'm not mistaken some versions of RealPlayer came bundled with Comet Cursor. The link below gives uninstall instructions for Comet Cursor.

tuf: Thanks for the advice. Throttling back the graphics performance did not change the cursor blink. I don't use, or have, the comet cursors. I guess that I will have to use the "realplay in the background" method of eliminating cursor blink....pav78
