My computer will not get power. The electricity went out when the company cut something, I had no surge protector or anything to protect the computer. Now I need to know how to fix it. I'm sure the power supply is bad because the fan does not turn on or anything. Could anything else be bad? What do I need to do to fix the problem???
Often after a power outage, there is a surge when the power comes back on. A few years ago I had a transformer burned up on my air conditioner because of that. The power company (rather their insurance company) paid for the repair. If your PS is bad, replace it and contact your power company for the cost. And get yourself a good UPS too!
I had a similar problem two years ago and after replacing the power supply, I finally followed the advice that is repeated here so often and bought a UPS. Hopefully, others who are putting the UPS purchase off will realize that it's only a matter of time before it's their turn.
I've tried and tried to convince people I know and talk with to do things like make backups and buy a UPS and all the rest. It's all so well documented....!! Nevertheless, many will NOT do it......People come into the store to buy a surge protector for their stuff and balk at the price of a 70 Joule protector, which is practically worthless anyway, and then I see them over there buying a ground adaptor!! They don't even have a GROUNDED system.....which means that feeble surge protector is nothing more than an ordinary plug strip...... I'm not sure there's anything one can do to convince people about this......
