"wireless connection"

Hi,
I was wondering why my wireless connection kept disconnecting every 1 or 2 minutes. I would pop out the wireless card, insert it back in, and it would work for like a minute or two. After that, I can't connect to any website anymore. So then I pop out the card, insert it back in and the same thing repeats. It's a netgear 802.11b wireless pc card. I'm using it for my toshiba laptop which runs winxp.
thanks.

Go into the wireless connections> authentication and uncheck enable IEEE 802.1XXX authentication. Also make sure you are using the safely remove hardware feature if your popping the card out while the machine is running. It sounds like Windows is looking for authentication and not finding any so it disconnects after a fre minutes. If this doesn't fix it report back how you are set up.

Sometimes it's just a bad firmware version or driver version. Make sure you've updated your router's firmware as well as your card's driver to the most recent one.

Sometimes with dual cards, it may not operate well if there is intereference from another bandwidth. You may need to change the mode of your card to the specific bandwidth you're using (exclusive G instead of G/B, or vice versa). You could also set your router to only recognize the MAC address from your wireless system to decrease chances of interference.

Also, many people tend to have link problems when they ENABLE power saver mode for their card (usually laptops) - disable that feature.

And as always, check for optimal placement of your router and make sure there are no other appliances that could be sending out intereference nearby.

It usually shows up if there is a PC card or something extra firewire and external usb peripherals on the machine. I don't know how to get it to show up on XP. I hear it can ruin the controller if you jerk them out. It takes awhile but it eventually happens. I would turn off the machine first. I was just looking at mine and it is missing. If I put my flash card in it shows back up. Interesting I don't know why it disappeared.
