Go to Start/Shutdown and see if it shows "Standby" If it does use the down arrow to bring up the Drop down menu and select "Shut Down" Hope that this is the problem.

If you mean, it goes to standby after sometime and you don't want it to do that. Go to Control Panel -> Power Options -> Find System Standby and select Never from drop-down menu.

Thanks guys...found the problem in Motherboard/powermangement settings
-they were wrong...If I hadn't gotten your feedback-I'm not sure I would have gone there..thanks again.
