"The Best Benchmarking Tools"

I just updated my new to me Dell Precision M6600 to a i7-2960XM, 32gb 1600 DDR 3 ram, already had a Samsung Evo 840 SSD.

I have never done this sort of thing before, so what is the best? Google shows tons of them.

Thnaks,

HP

I'd be curious to know what in the world would anyone on the planet need 32GB Ram for?? I run a lot of stuff at the same time and in the background and can't even surpass 2.6GB at any givin time..What in the world would you need 32 for????? Seems wayyy overkill to me. Just curious thou.

32GB seems like overkill to me too, but if you can afford it go for it

However, right now, just sitting here reading PCQandA, I'm using 2.5GB. So I'm sure that when I'm actually doing something that it goes much higher.

LOL !!!

Boy, did this thread get off-topic in a hurry!

Ok, say you just want to bench the overall performance of a computer. How closely can you trust Windows built-in tool, WEI?

It doesn't really give you any useful information. There's a bunch of things out there. In addition to what's already been mentioned, something that I've used quite often is an online batch of tests that can be found here:

http://www.pcpitstop.com/betapit/pitstop.asp

You have to run IE as an administrator and there are two ActiveX controls that will need loaded before they will run.

Many thanks, Mark. Long ago I had pcpitstop stuff installed on a machine. Pretty useful, as I recall.
