"Window Live Mail and Outlook Epress"

Been using OE with XP. Transitioning to W7. If I install Windows Live Mail in W7, is there any way to import my OE stuff from XP. I'm hoping there is some way to coy or export/import. I know OE has an Eport function and I know that WLMail has an import function.

Good question. I really liked Outlook Express. But it's been so long since I had to transition to Live Mail that I can't remember if I even imported anything from OE.

edit: Maybe this will help.

Thanx. Anyone know if it will work for W7?
it is my understanding that WLLMail can't be installed on XP.

I have Windows Live Mail running on my XP Laptop as we speak. I like the 2009 version, and it installs fine on XP. I like it because of the ease of setting up multiple mail addresses for the same user. Useful for sorting out personal or work mail etc.

Just download Windows Live 2009 from the MS archives and away you go.

Here's a link from File Hippo. Click on the Rectangulat green button to the right:

OK. Did that. Can I export my OE stuff to live Mail on my XP machine, and if so, can I then import the Live mail stuff in XP to my W7 Live mail?

Oh, if only OE worked in W7!!

I just Googled on how to Export OE Mail to WLM. Lots of info.

First link shoes how to do it with Vista, but Win7 should be exactly the same. Use a Thumb Drive for copying:

Import OE Mail to WLM on separate computer.

Here's a video showing how to do it. Note: Read comment section about selecting " All Folders " to Export to Thumb Drive:

Import OE Mail to WLM

Regular warning, such as make backups etc apply.

I prefer WLM 2009 over the later versions because the GUI is much closer to that of OE. I hate the " Ribbon Toolbars " in the 2011 and 2012 versions. I also found that the fonts in WLM 2011 and 2012 versions look " washed out " compared to WLM 2009.

WLM is superior to OE in that it get rid of troublesome DBX folders ( and their size limitations )and it is much easier to set up multiple aliases or mail boxes for an identity.

I run WLM 2009 on all of my Win7 and XP machines now.

In WLM make sure that you have the Main Menu Bar enabled. Default is set to Hide. There's a strange looking Icon on the upper right Toolbar for Configuration. Edit: Or push " ALT + M " to toggle Menu Bar.

Then click on " File " and you should see Import and Export functions.

I would suggest installing Mozilla Thunderbird and not look back.
