"Trying to restore to different computer"

My W10 Pro machine went completely belly up. I have only salvaged a Macrium Reflect image on an external usb hard drive. A friend donated a decent 3 yr old Gateway, with lots of junk on it. It runs fine, after I dumped his stuff and put on my retail W7 Pro.

I then did a restore from the HD. My original W10 desktop came up, and I thought a few manipulations would fix it, but I found there is no cursor, no mouse, no keyboard action. I should point out that the keyboard and mouse were fine before the restore. Also the original W10 machine had an SSD for storage, and the Gateway I restored the image to has a hard drive.

With no means of input, I have no access to this computer. I will fax a 6 pak to anyone who can fix this

Trying to restore an image made on one hardware platform to a totally different hardware platform often doesn't work. I'm not very familiar with Reflect, but it should have the capability to extract files from the image so you can get your important data such as Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos, etc.

You can try to reboot and then shut off the power before it gets to the desktop. Do this at least 3 times and Windows 10 may give you repair options that MAY allow you to select startup options. If you can get to this, try starting in Safe Mode with Networking. If the keyboard and mouse then work, try to install drivers for the Gatway hardware. If you can't access the internet, download needed drivers to a flash drive from another computer.

Behind every good computer... is a jumble of wires 'n stuff.

Thanks very much. Will try. Also noted that while plugging and unplugging mouse and keyboard, I could hear beeps, which leads me to believe, that they are, in some way, recognized.

Another forum suggested looking at Macrium Reflect Redeploy, which appears to cover just this scenario. I've heard of it, and would like your opinions. I don't mind spending $70 if it works.

I haven't used it to redeploy to dissimilar hardware but the free AOMEI Backupper Standard claims to be able to do so:

That looks good, but the Aoemi Backupper techs say it won't work with an image created with another program. I see no harm in giving it a try though. If it bricks the target, I have the ability to return it to factory default. Opinions please.

You can try but I really doubt that Backupper will recognize the Macrium backup as it's probably a proprietary file type.

The Macrium techs didn't offer to give or sell you their program at a reduced price?

Jim.

EDIT: Backupper file type is ".adi". I doubt it would work but you could try changing your Macrium backup's extension to .adi for laughs.

A miracle...For at least the 30th time, attempted to use my W10 dvd to clean install w10 on the donor computer. Previously this would not get anywhere near completing. This time it worked! compute Don't know why. My image, with all my good stuff on it was transferred over without a hitch. Problem fixed!!. I'd like to attribute it to good, clean living, but that's out! No need to restore to new hardware. Thanks for listening.

Well, I stumbled into it myself, even though I don't know what I did differently the 30th time, so I'll buy it for my self. No clue how or why it finally resolved. I was all set to fax the 6 pak. compute

What? You mean I can't fax solid objects? Next thing, you'll tell me the Star Trek transporter is bogus!

Failed again. Restore don't even start to boot. Used Donated friend's W7 computer, and tried restoring my W10 image with Aomei Backupper, FREE EDTION, using their Universal Restore feature. Held my breath...and... worked PERFECTLY. I am blown away. Faxing the 6 pak across the pond.
