I bought a teaching series online in MP3 format. I like the teaching. The file is about and hour and a half long and I do listen to all of it when I have time. But there is like 4 minutes of it that I really like that I would like to be able to capture just that 4 minute stretch into a separate MP3 file for playback... so I can load it into my Phone and listen to just that part when I want to.
Now I downloaded a free audio recording program called Audacity. Its supposed to be a good one... but I cant figure out how to do what I want to do. I want to be able to play that full MP3 file... and then start a recording at the beginning of that part I like and let it play for about 4 minutes and then stop it when I want to... and just have that 4 min stretch captured into its own separate MP3 file.
I should be able to do this with Audacity... but It seems when I try to do this.... it records from the Microphone on my laptop and is nothing but static > but I rather want it to record from the system > through the sound card or through windows.. not from the microphone
does anybody know how to do this?? I have tried to rig audacity to do this but cant figure it out. I also tried to do this through Jet Audio free but I cant get that to work either.
so if anybody know how I can do this t that would be great
if you know how I can rig up Audacity to do this that would be great
if you know of some other way I can do this that would be great also
I have a Lenovo Laptop running windows 10 the laptop has 6 gigs of ram and is in pretty good shape I should be able to do this
You don't need to re-record the bit you want. With Audacity you can cut your file into pieces, each piece a separate file, or you can chop out just the piece you want into a new file. Try looking into that, but first take a copy of the complete file so that in case of accidents you always have a fall-back option.
I don't have Audacity so I can't give instructions on the fine detail.

Thank for for that advice I will look into doing it that way.
I will do as you say. Copy a version of the file to a new location and then see if I can chop it up so that I can separate that part I really like > I will give it a shot thanks
Keep in mind that Format Factory (link here) will also do audio file edits. I just used it to split a monolithic audio file into 13 separate tracks. Took only minutes to accomplish.
I've had Audacity for some time, but rarely use it and not for this. I can't remember if I had to install LAME or not. Find your way to the Audacity site to get instructions to do that if you have to. I just followed my instructions and it worked fine.

Thanks Bob I will try that
Yeah sometimes in audacity I dont understand some things Like I can highlight a certain part > and there is a button for CUT and you would think that you could just click and cut that part out > but the CUT button is grayed out at times and wont work So I dont know why things like that happen
Well I will try to to read up about it more and see if I can get this to work

Audacity is far and away the most flexible audio editor around, but with that flexibility comes of necessity a degree of complexity.
Mp3DirectCut is more limited, which in turn means it's probably a bit easier to use. It will do what you want, again without needing to actually record anything, although it will record as well.
