"Wireless Printer Connection Problem."

Bought my wife a Canon Pixma MG6820 Wireless Printer like the one I use and didn't realize that I'd have trouble connecting it to her desktop. Because our LAN is in MY office, her new printer is connecting only with my computer.

These printers only support wireless--no USB ports. The Canon instructions assume a LAN connection. Even the "Direct Connection" mode assumes a LAN. A big problem in trying to figure out what's going on is the fact that the printers are both the same model, so, I can't tell them apart on many setup screens. Also, when setting the printer up, I connected it with the LAN, however, I have, since, succeeded in turning of sharing between the two printers.

Both systems are Windows 10 boxes. My wife's computer is connected to the router with a hard-wired ethernet cable.

Any suggestions (I hope )?

.

The specs for the Pixma MG6820 connections list Wireless, Hi-Speed USB, Memory Card Slots, Wireless Pictbridge3.

It's said to be on the back somewhere - though I couldn't find a picture of the location.

Jim.

Hot dog, Jim!! You are correct. I found the USB port, rather hidden in a nook on the back. Interestingly, there is no mention of USB connectivity anywhere in the set-up. I think that's because, on USB, there IS no set-up---just plug-and-play. No mention on the packaging either. My bad!

Many thanks, my friend.

You should be able to Edit the names of the printers to differentiate them.

You're welcome. Glad I could help.

I once had a CRT monitor with a USB port hidden in the base - and I really mean hidden. It was located at the end of a "tunnel" that no adult hand could ever fit - it would have taken extra long needle nose pliers to plug a cable into it. It was one of my first questions at "pcnineoneone" - what's if for? Answered by Marti - remember her?

Jim.

No, I don't. I don't think I ever had contact with her outside the forum.

I just looked up when she posted last. In the Computer forum it was September 2011, and in the OT in 2013. Her last post was to let everyone know that Norm, a very helpful member, had died.

I hope she's doing well and will stop back someday,

Maybe the Moderators have heard from her. It would be nice to know what's happened with her (and Steve Yandl, also).

Jim.
