In the last several days, I have been hit with ransomware popups. My procedure is to perform the three finger salute, close the browser, and then run the various security apps that I have. It seems to be getting worse. Any suggestions on how to avoid?
You are obviously infected. There are usually three ways of cleaning up. The most unreliable is to run scanning software. Of those programs I would try MalwareBytes. If you do not already have it, there is a free version. The most painful, but it will work, is install your system from scratch and start all over again. The easiest one which will not work for most folks, is install the last backup that was made BEFORE you became infected. This will not work for most because most folks do not make regular backups of their entire system.
Thanks Arcadio, I believe that I'm not with infected, as I have run all of my anti-virus apps and I'm shown as clean. I just activated a popup blocker and hope that it will help.
you are infected, believing you are not may make you feel good but the bomb is ticking. Most "good" viruses can easily defeat your antivirus programs. The most effective scanning method is to scan the drive in a clean computer and then run your cleanup suit with the drive back in your computer to continue the process.

If you believe that you are not infected then why would you even need a popup blocker (which probably will not protect you from a Trojan anyway which, if I am not mistaken, is what Ransomeware uses, not the easy-to-detect viruses). Acadia
My browsers are Chrome and Firefox. I am using Ublock Origin in both. Prior to activating Ublock I was getting ransomware popups in both. So far, it hasn't happened again. Will post if it does. Also using Superantispyware Pro, Windows defender, Malwarebytes, and Spyware blaster.
I've had good results using Ublock Origin to block advertising, and that's where a lot of the ransomware is coming from, it's disguised as legitimate advertising.
If you're using Ublock Origin and still getting ransomware, then you may be infected, or you may be going to controversial sites on the web that by their nature draw a lot of visitors or search engine hits.
Behind every good computer... is a jumble of wires 'n stuff.
