"Tale of woe."

The other day I was messing around trying to find a crack for a game (I know I know) and being tired I clicked on something that in the back of my mind I knew I shouldn't. Well that escalated quickly all of a sudden I have shortcuts for a new browser ,speed up my pc and a tech support number for "premium support". I immediately started up Malwarebytes and it found over 1000 suspicious files and malware and pups.

I clicked finish and it quarantined everything and I restarted there were some remnants hanging around so I ran JRT,Adaware and another one can't remember the name. They all found something and supposedly deleted. However when I opened Chrome it started up with some Russian page and now the settings little window down by the clock was gone and the icon for Chrome looked like a blank text file.At one point I thought I had it licked left for an hour and came back with a whole new set of crap lol. Now I'm getting desperate I have over a hundred things installed and a reset wasn't an option and I didn't have a current back up as I have no room at the moment.

So I think to myself I have system restore turned on which I have never had it work for me since Win 7 and chose a point the day before and wonder of wonders it worked perfectly. Win 10 I guess has made Restore actually functional.

Yeah I tried resetting Chrome and sync and the one adware cleaner I believe cleans up short cuts and neither worked completely.I'll keep that one in mind if there's a repeat.

I had to chuckle at the first Chrome Reset instruction:

Quote:
What changes when you restore your settings

The following settings will change back to the default:

Default search engine, which is changed BACK to Google.
(emphasis mine)

Are they really that insecure or paranoid or whatever that they think anyone would use Chrome but not Google search? No one would, would they?

Jim.

You can buy an external back up drive and backup automatically every night at a time you set. That's what I use at work.
