"I want Windows8 upgrade partition to go"
Tue Jan-16-18 03:54 AM by Stevehiker

This is what my other posts have been leading to. This is on my HP G60-535DX notebook. It came with Windows7 with Windows8 upgrade on it's own partition. I never used it and it just sits there. I kept Windows7 and also set up a dual boot with Win10. It became really slow and getting error messages with Windows update saying that the service was off. Without going into too much more detail; I did a factory reset and am now back with just Windows 7 (for now; I have and ISO image of Win10Pro). Anyway, the question is what is the best way to deal with the Windows8 upgrade; do I just delete it, or delete the partition. I'd like to have the space that Win8 is taking up. I'll try the attachment route first:

Edit: I tested it out. That was just too easy.

I suspect that others on the forum, like myself, are reluctant to give you an answer because attempting to delete the partition might render your computer unusable. It also might work just fine. With a bootable partitoning tool you could probably delete the Windows 8 install partition, move partitions around as needed to get the free space next to the c: partition and then increase the size of the c: partition to utilize the additional space.

I suggest that you first make a full image of the entire hard drive on an external storage device like a USB hard drive. Then you can experiment with the partitions.

Behind every good computer... is a jumble of wires 'n stuff.

I did make a full image of the hard drive and it's on an external drive. I think I tried formatting that partition and something went haywire, hence the factory reset.
