During the process of trying to recover from a hung windows 10 update, I may have corrupted the Windows 10 boot file as now all I get is a blinking cursor and computer doesnt boot. Is there a way to fix this? I dont have a windows 10 disk as I did the free update routine. Can I boot into the safe mode to try and fix boot?

I'm surprised your rig even runs Win 10 on 1GB Ram? I have the latest n greatest processor with 8GB Ram running Win 10 and about all I have running is antivirus and run 8 tabs loaded of Chrome and I'm using 6.1GB Ram. I can give you a link to download your own real copy of Win 10 if your interested.
Ok I got the computer back up and running windows 10 by continualy turning of and on computer. The computer ran fine until the Windows cumulative update 01-2018 updated on 24 Jan. The update is already downloaded but not yet installed. I want to delete the update but I cant because it is not yet listed as being installed. If I let it install, then my computer will not boot and I can't do anything. Another problem has arisen the past few days when I was online and reading a newspaper, Microsoft said we have encountered a problem while providing feedback to Microsoftand need to restart your computer we will automatically restart your computer. This is a real pain. Can I shut off the provinding info feedback to microsoft option? Windows 10 doesn't allow the user to correct any problems himself. It assumes every user is a moron. What arrogance.

That is not correct. I actually have 4 gigs of memory. How can I remove the Install of the update that is causing the problem. I cant delete it because it has not been installed yet. But when I restart my computer, the update installs and then my computer becomes unbootable so I cant delete it after it is installed. What I am doing now is get it back up by continually turning it off and on until the repair function kicks in. Then I go into settings and change the update options date to the farthest date (about a week). I usually do this on the day before it is scheduled to restart. That gives me a few more days before it will automatically restart. The past few days I have been getting a HTTP 500 error on my backup computer when replying to messages on PCQ and A. Only on this page not others on the net. Yet my posts are appearing on PCQ&A as usual. I have anti virus programs and malware bytes so I am pretty sure my computer is clean. Everything else is working as normal

This sounds similar to the problem that wlbandy is having in another thread.

But the Dell Dimension 3000 part is correct. This computer really doesn't run Windows 7 correctly, much less Windows 10. I suggest you replace it with a newer computer that has hardware that works with Windows 10. Officedepot has some good deals on refurbished computers that come with Windows 10 installed. https://www.officedepot.com/a/browse/refurbished-desktop-computers/N=5+967594/
Behind every good computer... is a jumble of wires 'n stuff.
Thanks for that link TTech. Looks like there are some pretty good bargains. I usually only use my computer to go on line and read newspapers, sports etc. these days. Don't play many games now. Amazon also has some pretty good buys.
