"Computer Opinions"

Does anyone have an opinion on the Google Chrome Book?

I am pretty sure they do not have a DVD Burner but what else is missing compared to an Desktop PC.
I've been looking a new PC's and they are in the $600-$1200 range unless you want a refurbished one and they go as low as $92. Many bad reviews on these refurbished. Even one having a distinctive curry smell when the fan went on.
With my PC somewhat back to normal, just wondering if I should look into something new.

Regards,
wings515

Dan K

Some limitations as mentioned, but I'm a fan (for other people, not me...). For basic use they are fine, as long as you understand the limitations, they should work fine. Pretty much idiot proof. Not much to do for maintenance, not much to worry about with malware (just common sense, they aren't completely immune to everything). If anything screws up, reset it, back to like it was in minutes. The school uses them now, used to have Macbooks for the students.

I'm not affiliated with this site, but it's the one I use whenever I buy certain things. If you didn't know, go to slickdeals.net. Depending what device you use to get to it, the interface looks different, so I can't say specifically what to click. But in the search, type in what you are looking for (laptop, Chromebook, whatever). Search results, sort by date posted if you want. Also, sometimes I filter that to only display those with one star or above. Then, you can click on the results to see any "deals", and most will have discussion on whether or not they are an ok product, etc.

Just happens 'ask woody' website began articles about chromebooks. About 5, maybe 7 years ago, I looked at them, cheap, but usable, as a portable webbrowser. On reviews, I found them to have cheap, unreliable hardware. MAYBE THAT'S CHANGED. I bought a macair. So far, very durable hardware. Love it. A huge learning curve from windows, which is my main squeeze, but for portable, I love it. They are very expensive. I've had two 'breakdowns', both software related, and higher level apple techs were able to fix them.
