"HP Pavilion running bad"

Have not been here in a long time. Hope the smart people are still here.

Got an HP pavilion PC from a friend last fall.

Has been working great.

Suddenly, when booting i get blue screen saying doing diagnostics.

Then I get blue screen saying repair options, all of which I have tried.

Nothing works.

i do not have Windows disk as this was a gift, Win 7 upgraded to Win 10. Giver has since died.

System Restore does not work.

Is there any way to fix this?

Do I need to purchase a Win10 disc, or a new PC?

Thanks in advance.
Dave

Every time I've got that it was the hard drive on laptops try and get into the hardware diagnostics mode on the laptop.I have to go out but when I get back if you can supply the model number I'll look up the key combo to do that.

I agree with JB, it's most likely the hard drive going bad. Since the computer came with Windows 7 it's plenty old enough for the hard drive to develop problems. I would replace the old conventional hard drive with a new SSD.

You can download Windows 10 from here:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Click the button that says

Quote:
Download tool now
and save the file. Then run it and it will download the full install and you will have the option to save it as an ISO or create a bootable DVD or flash drive. Hopefully your computer still has the Windows 7 license key decal because you will need the key to activate a fresh install of Windows 10.

Behind every good computer... is a jumble of wires 'n stuff.

Hi, It seems like blue screen of death. Blue Screen of Death or BSOD appears after a serious system crash that indicates there is some major issue with your PC. BSOD error also referred as STOP error which is related to critical hardware and driver misconfiguration, damage, and failure. Additionally, low-level programs that work at the Windows kernel level can also lead to the blue screen error. Its a primary indication that probably a hard drive failure can happen. So you can check the hard drive health. Check is there any bad sectors are present.
We can apply some manual steps like use Blue Screen Troubleshooter, use the S.M.A.R.T. Disk Monitoring Information, run CHKDSK Scan, run SFC Scan etc. I read in details from this article:
