"How to stop EDGE"

I have tried changing the Sign-In Auto to OFF and Task Manager Edge Disabled but it opens whenever it pleases. Usually about 5 minutes after boot.

Anybody have any other suggestions.

Regards,
wings515

Have you tried this?

If you don't want Microsoft Edge to start when you sign in to Windows, you can change this in Windows Settings.

1. Go to Start  > Settings .

2. Select Accounts > Sign-in options.

3. Turn off Automatically save my restartable apps when I sign out and restart them when I sign in.

In task manager, have you disabled Edge under the Startup tab?

Alternatively, Right click on your desktop computer icon, select Manage, then left click on Services and Applications, then on Services in the middle section. Then scroll down to Microsoft Edge Elevation Service and also to Microsoft Edge Update service (there might be more than one listing) to see how their Properties are set.

Also, while in Services, scan to see if there are other Edge services listed, IF so, check out their properties also

Is Edge somehow tied to your email program.

The first two I tried and they did not work.
I had difficulty understanding what you mean by the desktop icon.
Could you explain what you mean by that?

Sorry for not understanding.

Another way to get to Manage is to Use Start>Run and paste in - %windir%\system32\compmgmt.msc /s -

then click on Services and Applications, then on Services in the middle section. Then scroll down to look for the Windows Edge entries.

Jim.

I followed your instructions and when I scrolled thru the Services listing MS Edge was not listed.

A puzzlement!

This method worked for me......Use The Local Group Policy Editor, as described at this website.

It's still down here at 6:38 PM EDT.

Four different browsers all say words to the effect "silicophilic.com took too long to respond".

I'll keep trying periodically. Maybe wings515 will have better luck, if he sees your post.

Jim.

Hey Jim,

Just checked the link and brought me to the site with no problems. Here in central Texas Hill Country, my Opera, Firefox and Epic browsers all worked fine.

Try changing your DNS settings. I recently had a customer that couldn't get to some secure websites. I tried a bunch of things before I changed their DNS server setting from those supplied by the ISP.

I changed them to:
9.9.9.9
8.8.8.8

This fixed their problem.

Behind every good computer... is a jumble of wires 'n stuff.

Thanks, but no luck.

As I am not having the problem the original poster is, I'm not going to pursue it any further. I haven't experienced this on any other sites.

Jim.
