I happened to tune into yet another probably about to become silly "contest" on NBC, and they immediately start giving out the clues in........MORSE CODE. HAhahahahahahahahahahahaha
That "silly contest" was the annual Field Day contest, which serves to train Hams to operate in the field with emergency power generators for long hours, so they will be ready and able to be the only source of reliable communications in the event of a natural or man made disaster. This is a function Hams have long filled and a reason they are given large chunks of valuable frequency spectrum to use under their government licence.
#3. "RE: Revenge of the amateurs-----the radio amateurs" In response to Shelly (Reply # 2)
Shelly, what in hell are you blathering about?
I'm not talking about field day. For your personal edification, the first field day that I was a part of was before I was an amateur, long about 1963, when I was in junior high school. I've been in and out of ham radio since then, and I'm well aware of "field day."
I am NOT referring to field day, and for the second time, I am WELL aware of what, when, and why, field day, "is."
What I "was" referring to, is that the show operators where giving out the clues to the teams in Morse. NOT ONE of the members was the least bit familiar with Morse, even though some of them were CIA and Air Force.
