"Hey Jason & Beth"

I was just wondering how you guys are doing post-accident with all your injuries. Beth has your arm gotten worse or better? I also hope your mother's wound is getting better.

Thanks for checking in. Noah and Jason seem to be doing really well. My arm still goes tingly and numb a lot. I also get pain in my wrist and elbow from time to time that shoots up and down. I have been trying to take it easy, but it's hard since I've been taking a lot of computer classes this summer before school is back in session. I may call my doctor soon and see about further testing, but it may be too soon since there is still some swelling.

I believe my mother's leg has finally healed up. It had gotten infected and was not looking so great. Right now she's in pain with constant back spasms. Today they went out with us for a little while and you could tell she's walking funny because of the pain.

My car is also back with us. We got it back on Thursday and it looks amazing. The body shop where we purchsed our car did a wonderful job. You would never know that it had been in an accident. Noah also has a new car seat and is in LOVE with it since he helped to pick it out.

I will try to post some before and after photos of my car later.

Again, thanks for asking.

That's a quick turnaround on your car. When my girlfriend got clipped in the side by a semi last year. She was without a car for 7 weeks, waiting for everything to get squared away with the drivers insurance and the body shop. It was unbelievable.

We were very lucky. I had the police report the next day, so I was able to get the ball rolling quickly. I contacted our insurance company (which was the same as the man that hit us) and got upset when they wouldn't commit to someone coming to look at my car and a rental. I got a woman that was amazing. She gave me the name of the man that was going to look at my car. I believe this was on Tuesday, and our accident was Sunday. She told me the name of the gentleman that was going to look at our car and how to get the new car seat (which I STILL have not gotten a check for). She was also able to get to the gentleman that hit us to approve everything, including a rental for us.

I called the adjuster and asked him to tell me when he was going to get there. He hadn't even received our case and told me it would likely be the next day. Well, that afternoon he called and told me that he was there and to meet him to go over things. I was shocked. In a matter of 3-4 hours I had a schedule for my car, the okay on a new car seat, a rental for at least 10 days, and an estimate on the damage.

The garage told me then that they would probably have my car done by the following Thursday or Friday. They had to wait for the axle to come in. They could get started on the body work and after that they would inspect all of the wheels, latches, and other wonderful things that could have had issues with the accident.

On Wednesday I was told that I could pick up my car in the afternoon. So after a computer class I went with my father to check it out. I was amazed with the work. Now I just have to get used to having my car back and not being so jumpy.

Odd... In my accident in April, I had the police report before I even left the accident scene with the other two groups of people affected by our three car collision. I had the insurance on the phone discussing with them the problems, gave them all the information and within 2 hours had confirmation of a rental car for the next morning at Enterprise with a case number, and everything to follow through from that.

I had no issues getting approved for a rental (its in my contract), free towing and holding for assessment for the adjuster to review if it was salvagable or not. Not one cent out of my pocket (except calling) for the duration from the time of the accident till I bought a new car. Heck, from the time I was told the car was totaled til I could pick up the check was less than 24 hours.

Maybe I just got lucky, but I had no issues that you thought you might have had with your accident. Maybe its just that the companies are finally getting their crap together and the right and left hand are actually talking to each other. *shrugs*

When I had my first accident years ago,I was lying in bed at home when the insurance company called and talked to my wife about a pay off check for the totaled car.
She told me the price and I asked her, What about sales tax ? she asked the person and they did not know, they had never been asked before.
So they had to call back and when they did, said yes it would be added to the check.

I do my best thinking laying down

We weren't supposed to get the police report until we picked it up on Wednesday. We had a connection and were lucky enough to get it the next morning without having to go to the station. Jason called the insurance company to report the accident as soon as we got home (a little over an hour after the event). They told us something that we didn't realize. We never had rentals included in our policy. BIG mistake. So we found out that if we went on the other person's policy (since he was at fault) we could get one. Well, of course we wanted that since the accident was not our fault. The following day I made sure to add rental to our policy since it's a must in my eye and something we should have had all along. From what the insurance company said the tie up was getting a report from the man that hit us and approval from him since it was going to be on his policy. Thank goodness he immediately admitted fault and called the company back and approved everything.

The check for the damages was actually cut the same day the adjuster looked at it and sent via snail-mail to us. When we got home from a visit with friend in PA it was already here and waiting for us. Now I am trying to find out why that check was so quick and the one for the car seat (the only expense we had to do out of pocket) is taking so long.

I think part of the problems we are having are thanks NY state laws. The no-fault garbage is a nightmare and makes things so complicated. I have to call tomorrow (can't today since I have a computer class this afternoon) to get help with the paper work. I don't know what parts to fill out. They really could make things easier for people.

How insurance issues are handled varies from state to state because of the differences in laws. Also, how the policy is written (in large part because of the laws) makes a difference. The insurance compaines have to comply with the various state laws if the want to do business in those states.

My girlfriend didn't get her police report for almost 2 weeks. This was part of the 7 week fiasco in getting her car back. The other persons insurance paid for the rental for 6 weeks. Ridiculous.

That's got all the classic symptoms of nerve damage. But you're right, until the swelling goes down, the doctor won't be able to tell how serious the damage is. I'm glad to hear things are slowly on the mend though - I hope your arm is ok.
