"My favorite author has died" Wed Jul-25-07 04:24 PM by _Chewy_
Several years I picked up a book called "Ravenheart" at my local library which turned out to be one of the best novels I've ever read. It was by pure chance I was there, as I was accompanying a friend of mine who needed to researching something. The book is written by David Gemmell who is very well known in the UK and there's a even a forum for Gemmell fans.
After reading Ravenheart, I was instantly hooked and read every new release since 2001. I don't know how to describe his books other than saying he's not your average writer. He's got a sharp tongue, sharp wit and he takes suspense and drama to a new level. He is (or was rather) a very gifted & fantastic writer. After reading his latest release, "Shield of Thunder", I was saddened to discover he died last July in his home in England. From the short memoriam that was written about him by one of his fans, he sounds like he was a very good person.
The Fall of Kings, the final installment in the Troy trilogy war series is the last book ever written by him. He had delivered approx. 70,000 words to his editor before his surgery and was finished by his wife Stella. It is scheduled to be released later this year.
Ludlum died in 2001, reportedly leaving behind several unpublished manuscripts and rough outlines, which continue to be dusted off and published with the help of ghostwriters
