Daisy, Daisy,
Give me your answer do!
I'm half crazy,
All for the love of you!
It won't be a stylish marriage,
I can't afford a carriage
But you'll look sweet upon the seat
Of a bicycle built for two....

Open those damned pod bay doors NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a forest in an acorn.

I would think he's at the VFW right now, belly up to the bar, slamming down Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer and talking about those Gaddamned slackers, ner'-do-wells, lazy, shiftless, drug-taking youth whose only goal is to score some dope and play electronic games online. That pitiful and pitiable bunch is what this country has to look forward to for leadership and workers.
Those slackers are what will eventually bring this country to its knees. They are like the Book says: "they neither toil nor spin", a whole genration of people who have no skills, no purpose, no direction. They have limited if any values, they see this country as being a "wuss", they like MP3s more than they like or use books.
Almost without exception, any one of those valueless, worthless, pampered slackers couldn't come close to being worth the pus in the pimple on a good man's a$$.

Let's try to guess this logically. Based on his online personality and his obsession with conspiracy theory, he will not drive anything that draws attention to himself. That rules out the Yugo at one end, and the Porsche at the other end. So, he must drive something between these two. How about this one?

Actually, I come in peace. I don't harbor any ill will towards HAL, ( or anyone else for that matter) although we ruffled eachother's feathers a while back. I think that fanning the flames of contempt aren't really healthy for anyone. BTW, I thought maybe this was a celebrity "ROAST" of some sort, when I first saw this thread. I am not always on the opposite side of the fence on all subjects or topics, although I probably don't mention so. I'm still trying to figure him out though. I remember a quote on my screensaver I saw a while back, that said something like; "If you should meet a man of contrary nature, you should reflect inward." I can't recall who said it,(Mark Twain?) but I thought it probably fits pretty well. The past is the past, so we move on. Like Paulie says, "I don't sweat you." }> BTW, let me know if I'm sounding like a quote junkie, because I hate that, & I like my own originality. I have this damn Quotes screensaver (free one) that has over 5,000 quotes in it, and I sometimes just sit and watch it for gobs more time than I should. Kind of addicted to it.

I don't know why, but I kind of enjoy learning about the people that are on this forum. I've learned a lot more about Waldo in recent days than I had ever known before, that he has more depth than he lets on in his wise-cracks, which usually crack my ass up pretty well. I might have this wrong, but I think HAL sometimes likes to observe human behavior, and what better way to do that than to pose an opposite, (albeit sometimes radical) idea to other's reasoning. Enjoys being somewhat of an enigma. He was probably the kid that liked to put the unwrapped Baby Ruth bar in the swimming pool to see how many kids would jump out! }> As for DM... what can I say? He likes Erasure... Weren't they popular during the 80's? You aren't a WHAM fan, are you DM? }> Just kidding! Besides, I can't talk, I liked Boston.

Probably too much is taken too seriously on this forum, especially on relatively petty or pointless stuff. Some of the discussions get pretty hot, although, I'm not saying it isn't entertaining at that.

Take care all!

He who trims himself to suit everyone will soon whittle himself away.
-Raymond Hull

giddyrig,

I certainly can get out of line at times but I for one think you're a welcome addition to this forum and I'm very happy you're here. Especially after I read your post on the draft thread. And I've also learned alot about Waldo's intelligence and humor...he makes things fun around here. He's one of the funniest people I've ever not met.

No need to bash Hal.While most of our DNA is alike ,it is the parts that are different that make us interesting.I enjoy everyone on this site.I don,t care if they agree with me or not as long as they are willing to communicate. The more they are set in their ways the more I like to hear those things that they espouse.I regret the negative posts that become needlesly personal but I think we all can benefit from the exchange of opinions. We don't have to agree with any or all of these opinions, but we learn a lot of what the population consists of and what we need to do to successfully navigate in our daily lives. For what it is worth I did NOT attend a peace rally today.I might have if I knew which one Hal was attending(Just to see what he drove up in) }> }>

Newbee,

Do me a favor, put a space after your periods. I...I...feel closed in.

"bash Hal.While"

See, this is what I mean. You've got me all crunched up here between "bash" and "while."

How about a little common courtesy.

Hal9000 amazes me. His knowledge, charm and calm reasoned replies are a credit to this Forum. All I can say you people are lucky to have him. He does tend to be a trifle long winded but, we all have our faults. I am a fan.

Correction Will Robinson (voice of the robot), there should be two (2) spaces after a period.

It is generally accepted that the practice of putting two spaces at the end of a sentence is a carryover from the days of typewriters with monospaced typefaces. Two spaces, it was believed, made it easier to see where one sentence ended and the next began. Most typeset text, both before and after the typewriter, used a single space.

"The only time more than 1 space was used in a line of type was when we had to justify the line to the full margins."
— Madisonhank, describing typesetting before digital type

Today, with the prevalence of proportionally spaced fonts, some believe that the practice is no longer necessary and even detrimental to the appearance of text.

With monospaced typefaces every character takes up the same amount of space on the page. M uses the same amount of space as i. With proportionally spaced fonts, the characters take up an amount of space relative to their actual width - the i needs less space than the M.

The use of proportionally spaced type makes two spaces at the end of a sentence unnecessary (if they ever were). The extra spacing is often distracting and unattractive. It creates 'holes' in the middle of a block of text — trapped white space on a smaller scale.

The Bottomline: Professional typesetters, designers, and desktop publishers should use one space only. Save the double spaces for typewriting, email, term papers, or personal correspondence. For everyone else, do whatever makes you feel good.

Does that include no spaces after a period? Anyway, thanks for the info. That just saved me a lot of research.

Oh, so you really didn't mean "do whatever makes you feel good. Maybe it was more like "do what feels good within certain limits. Don't go overboard", or something like that?

I'm not a Wham! fan, but George Michael is a great musician, even if he does like to do a little bit of "dressing up".

The intent of Waldo's post (at least what I got from it) was to just sit back and make jokes, not necessarily JUST directed at Hal, to have a good time and not worry about the things that make us all different. Whats important is that we all have a sense of humor about things, and try not to take everything in life so seriously.

BTW, I found this picture of Waldo, Hal took it one one of his recon missions
