Not sure if I should post this in the computer forum? It's probably more appropriate here seeing as it's not that important.
OK here goes: If you use the following HTML (which I'm posting in "normal" format):
<a href="file:///c:\">hard drive</a>
what it does is provide a link shown as hard drive and when you click on it it'll show the contents of your c drive in your browser window. This is used as a gag on some web pages to make you think others can see the contents of your hard drive when in fact they can't.
My question is: since I've installed Service Pack 1 for XP this "trick" doesn't work anymore - I click on it and nothing happens, just wondering if anyone knows why?
Thanks guys, I didn't want to put it on the Computer Forum because it isn't really important - I was just curious, it's definitely connected with XP Service Pack 1 though.
It's presumably related to the IE components of the SP1 update - I run ME with the IE SP1 and it doesn't work for me either. I have seen this gag before and it has worked.

Well, one of the main reasons for the SP1 upgrade, IE6 and all that is to thwart this kind of thing.
Firewalls are there also to prevent it coming from online....
Back in more innocent times there were little utils one could sneak into someone else's computer to make the screen melt or shatter and all kinds of stuff like that.
These days those aren't seen as funny anymore......I used to have a ton of those.....
Hi old dude, I agree, but this particular "trick" is just a harmless prank - I guess it could cause people undue worry if they didn't know what was going on though.
