"First Debate Performance"

Just wondering what everyone thought of the first debate.

Personally, I thought that Hillary did great at subtly baiting Trump. Trump couldn't help himself and took the bait.

Some highlights (or low lights depending on how you look at it):

- Trump declaring that he pays no taxes and that makes him smart. (During a quick interview right after the debate, he denied he said this. Sorry, Mr. Trump, but recorded video has been a thing for awhile now.)

- Trump saying that perhaps he didn't pay those workers because they didn't do good work. Note: Next time you stay in a Trump hotel, just tell them after your stay that the room wasn't good and, as per Trump, you don't need to pay.

- Trump saying he'll release his taxes once he's out of audit - but that he's always being audited. (Combine this with the paying no taxes and I wonder why he's always being audited.)

- Trump's repeated lying about proven facts and then trying to shout over the person correcting him (Hillary and Moderator Lester Holt).

- Trump insisting that blowing up an Iranian ship because their sailors taunted ours wouldn't cause a war. (What would his reponse be if the Iranians blew up one of our ships for that reason? Or at all?)

I don't think there was a knock-out moment, but Trump came across as a know-nothing, out-of-his-depth bully while Hillary was a composed and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, I think too many people will see Trump's performance and say "He shouted over people which means he's a strong leader." It should be interesting to see how the polls react over the next few days.

Trumps performance degraded from bluster to incoherence as the debate progressed. He seemed to run out of energy halfway through the debate.

It will be interesting to see if and how much the polls will shift in the next few weeks. Trump's performance was far worse than I anticipated, and he demonstrated why he is grossly unfit for the Presidency but his support has never been based upon fitness, but upon the desperation of his followers.

She had him for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Not surprising considering she's probably got sixty-five IQ points on the jackass. And as far as stamina is concerned, at the end of the 90 she's standing straight and proud like one of those Marvel comic superheroes in her power-red pant suit, while that flabby old piece of degenerate white trash is doubled over, gasping for air. One of his brown-nosing toadies should have took pity and tossed in the towel.

By the way, in case anyone missed it, the NY Times has the entire video as well as the transcript of the debate here:

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/27/us/politics/transcript-debate.html?_r=0

EDIT: Just wanted to add possibly my favorite back and forth:

Quote:
HOLT: Mr. Trump, this year Secretary Clinton became the first woman nominated for president by a major party. Earlier this month, you said she doesn’t have, quote, “a presidential look.” She’s standing here right now. What did you mean by that?

TRUMP: She doesn’t have the look. She doesn’t have the stamina. I said she doesn’t have the stamina. And I don’t believe she does have the stamina. To be president of this country, you need tremendous stamina.

HOLT: The quote was, “I just don’t think she has the presidential look.”

TRUMP: You have — wait a minute. Wait a minute, Lester. You asked me a question. Did you ask me a question?

You have to be able to negotiate our trade deals. You have to be able to negotiate, that’s right, with Japan, with Saudi Arabia. I mean, can you imagine, we’re defending Saudi Arabia? And with all of the money they have, we’re defending them, and they’re not paying? All you have to do is speak to them. Wait. You have so many different things you have to be able to do, and I don’t believe that Hillary has the stamina.

HOLT: Let’s let her respond.

CLINTON: Well, as soon as he travels to 112 countries and negotiates a peace deal, a cease-fire, a release of dissidents, an opening of new opportunities in nations around the world, or even spends 11 hours testifying in front of a congressional committee, he can talk to me about stamina.

(APPLAUSE)

That was a mic drop moment right there.

Absolutely correct and to the point. Trump impressed me with the first 15 or 20 minutes, merely based on the fact that he showed any restraint at all. After that, it was a Sarah Palin moment at large.

Trump showed his bigotry, racist sentiments, ignorance of just about anything and everything of importance and, most importantly, showed how much of a blatant liar he truly is. He may still have the support of his stalwart supports, who likely don't have the capabilities of a cognizant thought among them, but the rest of the populace must be still cringing at the thought of his becoming the next President of your hallowed country.

I'm surprised he's lasted this long, but he won't last much longer.

Dave

Overnight Howard Dean, said that it looked like Trump was on a cocaine high in the debate. Dean has a degree as a medical doctor,

The same thought occurred to me during the debate, but I did not say anything since I am not a physician, but all the symptoms were there.

The strange sniveling and snorting at the beginning of the debate are typical of someone who has just snorted cocaine, It usually lasts for twenty to thirty minutes, then causes aggressive behaver for s period of time. Ultimately it causes extreme fatigue and an inability to focus, and incoherence.

I was never on drugs, but I knew several Cocaine addicts over the years, and Trumps behavior brought them to mind.

Now that Dean has broached the subject, we may see some interesting revelations coming forth.

I wouldn't go the cocaine route (except as a joke), but he at least was suffering from a cold or allergies. Where it gets interesting was that he just needed to say "I had some allergies. No big deal." and 90% of America would have nodded their heads and moved on. After all, there's so much more to hate about Trump than his sniffling.

He didn't do this, though. He blamed the microphone which somehow was strong enough to pick up tiny sounds his nose made but wasn't strong enough to pick up when he spoke. He went further, questioning whether this was set up like this on purpose.

To Trump, even admitting allergies or the common cold is weakness. He must portray strength at all times and if anything doesn't go his way he must blame anyone someone else.

Beyond the "why" of his sniffles, his reaction to them shows - for the Some-Large-Number-I've-Lost-Count-th time - that he's not fit to be President. Not because of some illness or drug addiction, but because he would rather blame some nebulous conspiracy for planting a physics-defying microphone at his podium over claiming allergies.

I didn't think cocaine, but the first thing I said after the debate was that he took an extra dose of whatever drug he uses to keep going.

I'm not saying I believe it 100%, but there were a lot of signs of an "upper" miscalculation. The dry mouth, the way he came on strong in the beginning then tailed into random gibberish later, his even more pronounced than usual lack of self-awareness of his own behavior.

Anyone within 10 years of Trump's age has to question how he generates all the energy he seems to for such a long time now (the primary and general campaign.) People at his level have access to much the rest of us don't, including doctors willing to be owned. Michael Jackson basically died because the drug he used to sleep didn't work, so he took more and died.

I can easily see someone with Trump's ego thinking he could handle it, thinking he needed an extra boost for the debate, and paying the price.

Since you are obviously not too bright, I have to point out that "Snap Polls" are neither useful nor are they polls'

A Snap poll allows anyone to vote as many times as they want to. thus they are a compilation of no value, and indicate nothing.

Yes, the CNN poll sampled 41% of Democrats and 26% of Republicans. This leaves 33% independents. Given that, you'd expect that Hillary would have 41% + some independents and Trump would have 26% + some independents.

62% said Hillary won and 27% said Trump won. (10% might have said it was a draw.) This (most likely) means that those 26% of Republicans said Trump won and those 41% of Democrats said Hillary won. The remaining 1% for Trump came from independents and the remaining 21% for Hillary came from independents.

Doing the math, this means that 63.6% of independents polled said Hillary won, 30.3% said it was a tie, and 3% said Trump won. Clear victory for Hillary.

The worst crawled out of Chicago and been in office for almost 8 years...A WORLDWIDE disaster. Hitlery would be more of the same or worse, if that's even imaginable.

I'm quite aware how real they are that's what's scary. The fact that a candidate that spouts simplistic solutions to complex problems and actually thinks that he alone can solve them is scary. That's what we all need is a megalomaniac running the world's most powerful nation. The fact that you actually believe he's going to make an average American's life better is laughable.

What does Trump bring exactly? He lies every second word then denies it while they're playing it back to show him.No one has said HRC is the best candidtate ever just far better than the meglomaniac blowhard that will put your economy in the tank and likely start WW3.There is such a thing as not politically correct without being rude, obnoxious and racist.

Trump performed exactly as you described.......Hillary came across as you described because she's had 30 years in politics to hone her act.

I'm sorry I just don't like either one and it's a damn shame this is the best we have to vote on.

It's going to be a hard decision in November for me. I keep wishing there will be a movement for some write in candidate suddenly appear that will be worthy of a vote, we all know how wishing for something goes.....wish in one hand and sh*t in the other and see which one fills up first

Trump thinks that anything that goes against him must be rigged (because he can't admit to losing anything). I'm fully expecting him to lose the election, claim that he actually won it but that the vote was rigged, and put us through a months-long legal battle - possibly including vague references to people storming the White House.

Holt attacked Trump on the issues of his taxes and being a “Birther,” but managed to neglect the following about Hillary:

Health issues

Clinton Foundation corruption

Evidence of rigging the 2016 primaries

The Clintons taking a “charity deduction” on their own tax return by giving $1 million to the Clinton Foundation (i.e., themselves)

Hillary perjuring herself before Congress about privately sending classified emails

The approximately 30,000 deleted emails

The Benghazi disaster and its role in creating ISIS

Goldman Sachs “speaker fees”

Lying about “landing under sniper fire”

Voting for the Iraq War

Claiming she was “dead broke” when she left the White House

The Clinton Body Count

Covering up for Bill’s many sexual misdeeds

Filegate
Chinagate
Travelgate
Whitewater

Hillary’s incredible cattle futures profits

Being dismissed during the Watergate hearings for unethical behavior

If Holt is an “unbiased” moderator, why did he zero in on Trump’s taxes, but not mention even one of Hillary’s scandals? If Lester pleads that he is “unaware” of the above issues, is he qualified to be a journalist?

Not to mention that one time in preschool when Hillary socked a kid for tugging on her pigtails.

I couldn't possibly know if and for how long you lurked at PCQ&A before deciding it was time to inundate this board with a load of applesauce culled from the hallucinatory dreams of the mentally sluggish right, which for more than a generation have besotted themselves on a poisonous brew of hatred for all things Clinton, but -- come on already -- you must have noticed by now that you are sowing your toxic seed on, at best, unsympathetic ground.

The average IQ level of the membership here is obviously several points above the level of those places you evidently spend the majority of your waking hours shopping.

So, as I mentioned earlier, have fun if you must. Make hay while your shrinking sun sets beyond the horizon of totalitarian despair. Preach to your ever dwindling choir, which sadly for you is currently performing at a venue in another town.

I could have condensed my sentiments into two much more familiar words, but our scrupulously fair moderators would probably have taken exception.

Oh no, sir -- I have plenty more. But considering the quality of the adversary, and my reluctance to waste much more than another breath in an exchange with him, I'll maintain restraint.

In parting I'll just wish you good luck with that hatred of Hillary and anything intellectual thing you folks seem to revel in. If your guy, through some evil twist of fate, wins this -- you, along with all of us, are going to need all the luck we can get.
