"Hate crimes soar across the US after Donald Trump elected"

Welcome to Trump's America - where the racism and hate that festered beneath the surface gets to come out of the shadows and be mainstream. I would hope that Trump would quickly address this and reiterate how unacceptable this is, but I'm not holding my breath.

Not too surprising as he practically gave racists a license during his campaign. I notice he hasn't said anything about the clan having a parade for him.

He said he was going to drain the swamp. He didn't say which swamp. He just chose a really racist, hate-filled swamp and is draining it into Washington, DC.

It seems that whenever "facts" are posted, Snyderman doesn't reply. I'm sure that he's trolling the internet in search of a rebuttal.

I guess they didn't like his opinions and kicked him off.

He didn't have "opinions" He had links. He was asked many times to express himself in his own words. He didn't choose to - so, if he's gone, that's fine with me. But I think he's still here.

He is not the only one posting links. I guess different rules apply to different people.

Come on, don't keep the person name, or persons names, to yourself.

Tell us who else chooses only to post links.

Everyone else that I am aware of, on whichever side of the political spectrum they reside, can, and does express and defend their beliefs in their own words - along with links as appropriate.

Jim.

Agreed and posting links to alt right web sites does not constitute an opinion.I personally don't care what opinion he holds if he expressed it.Which he didn't and if challenged just posted a meme or another link. You on the other hand expressed yours and why and I can respect that.I think you are deluding yourself that the change you seek will be of the welcome kind. That's my opinion. We can agree to disagree and time will tell won't it?Sorry KJT that last part was supposed to be a reply to toim4018 lol.

It just seems everyone is so negative about Trump and pro-Obama. I am scared what Obama will do in his last days, already cut back on border security. He seems to cater to illegals, which put a large burden on our system.

Quite honestly, I don't think Obama will do anything major during his last days. Even if he does, expect Trump to roll it back in his first few executive orders (for better or worse).

What I'm scared of is the increasing anti-immigrant/anti-Muslim/anti-Semitic/anti-LGBT comments/actions. The hate groups have been emboldened by Trump's election and are using the opportunity to come out of the shadows and openly proclaim that America is only for straight, white Christians.

After I got over the shock of Trump winning, I decided that I should give him a chance. Then, he appointed Steve Bannon - an anti-Semite and member of the alt-right. This is the same group that just had a conference in Washington DC which ended with shouts of "Heil Victory" (Sieg Heil in German) and Nazi salutes. Trump has also appointed unabashed racists and science-deniers.

Trump has also shown that he can't take criticism and wants to keep the media from saying bad things about him. He's claimed he'd "open up the libel laws" - which is impossible since there are no federal libel laws. He's also just had a meeting with the heads of the major media outlets during which he lambasted them for being liars.

What am I scared of with a Trump administration is a normalization of hate. I'm scared that I'll be targeted with violence because I'm Jewish. I'm scared that friends of mine will be targeted because they're gay. I'm scared that classmates of my boys will be targeted because they are (legal) immigrants and/or Muslims. And, in the midst of all of this, I'm scared that I won't be allowed to speak up lest I "libel" Trump and face repercussions.

Trust me, I would love to be able to honestly post "Hey, Trump really wasn't a bad President" 4 years from now, but I'm not hopeful that this is going to be anywhere close to the case.

Satan, is running rampant. That's why there's all the hate crimes.

NOT because of Trump.

Obama is PURE EVIL!

At least with Trump, we know what we're getting.

A true representation of the population. Commentary there, average IQ: room temperature in an igloo. Here we progressive elites strive for better things.

I have a general rule never to read the YouTube comments. Sometimes, I forget my rule and start to read the comments. Invariably, I'm reminded why I have that rule. For some reason, the YouTube comment area attracts the very worst of humanity and entices them to spew the worst they have to offer.

Hello Pot, meet Kettle. I am in no way a Trump guy, but anytime someone voices an opinion that you people don't agree with gets labeled. Typical liberal self-righteous tactics.

It's just that I'm a Satan guy, and I don't want Obama getting all the credit.

But, you're right -- even folks in the booby hatch are entitled to an opinion.

I have no trouble with someone being pro-Trump if they can articulate their positions. However, opening with "Satan is running rampant ... Obama is PURE EVIL!" isn't going to get someone taken seriously.

When James says he's "a Satan guy", I know he's joking. He's been around the board long enough to be able to say that and for us to know he's not actually some devil worshiper.

When Cooper_D (who is new to the boards with only 3 posts) comes in saying "Satan is running rampant and Obama is EVIL", I take him seriously. Maybe he was joking or trying to use hyperbole to prove a point, but he didn't give any indication that this was true. Instead, he just proclaimed our current President as evil with no context or explanation.

Given all this, I'm not going to just assume Cooper_D was joking. Instead, I'll assume he's being serious and thinks Obama is evil for some reason.

So your theory as to why hate crimes have soared after Trump was elected in a campaign in which he fanned the flames of hatred is that it's all Obama's fault? What did Obama do to cause hate crimes to spike post-election? (Notice, I didn't say "during his entire term.") Or is everything, by default, Obama's and Hillary's fault simply because Obama and Hillary?

One example is on his overseas trip right after election and his comments about the protests seemed to encourage them.

Another is some of his comments about BLM, even recognizing them at all.

I agree with the sentiment behind BLM - even if some of their protests have gotten off-message. There's a very real problem with racism in the police force. Not all cops are racists, but there's a subgroup that are and they are protected from prosecution from police departments willing to do anything to protect even the most corrupt cop.

I think body cameras are a great solution to the problem. If an incident occurs, the footage can be reviewed and one of two things will happen. Either it will exonerate the officer (thus stopping any BLM protests) or it will show the officer is guilty in which case appropriate action can be taken. It's the kind of thing that helps the good cops and hurts the bad cops.

I agree with body cameras and the comment about good and bad cops.

My issue is groups such as BLM. If someone wanted to start Men's Lives Matter or White Lives Matter group people would be screaming discrimination. Why does anyone deserve anymore than another? Some people just want to be cry babies!

Which can only be interpreted as your believing black lives DON"T matter.

BLM happened precisely because the incidence of African Americans killed by cops is way out of whack with their proportion of the population. It's simple statistics.

Do I condone some of the results of BLM's formation? No, I don't. Do I defend their right (in a democracy, although Trump seems determined to end that) to form a group for peaceful protest? Absolutely

I also note that you are conveniently ignoring the fact that there has been a Black Lives Don't Matter group active in the USA for decades, and they have been guilty of many more and far worse crimes than any associated with BLM. Just to refresh your failing memory, it's called the Ku Klux Klan.

My stance is "All Lives Matter", we all were created equal. No one needs to claim they have more rights than others.

BLM overlooks that statistics show that blacks are involved in crimes 7-10 times more than whites while they make up a lower percentage of the population. Maybe that is why they interact with police more than others.

Not ignoring the KKK. Someone burned a cross on my high school baseball field, it was blames on the KKK but never knew if it was confirmed or not. Pro KKK signs were up all over high school. Lots of racial tensions back in the day. People have lost their lives to BLM, is that justified? Just like any lives lost due to KKK, NO! But today they have block roads and innocent people died just because emergency services could not get thru to help people in other areas.

There bad people in all races and sexes. I have owned a home in a predominately black neighborhood and some of my best friends were/are black. They don't agree with BLM, they realize lots of these people got themselves into the situation they did.

Lots of people in this world lack common sense, more evident in this day and time than ever.

Numbers show what they show, people can try to make excuses.

Fact is BLM is a racist organization just as others are in today's time.

Sigh again. I'm not going to launch into another long-winded, excruciatingly painful explanation of things obvious on their face. The cherry-picked alt-right promoted statistic you seem stuck on has been shown to be, at best, misleading -- most certainly intentionally. The reasons for this, demographic and societal, are all rationally and reasonably explained. You simply have to read with an open mind, which unfortunately appears to be much too much to expect when the mind is closed.

Goodnight, Gracie.

What makes your link more accurate than the others?

No matter what you can search and find statistics that lean one way or another. Who really knows how accurate they are. I can speak for what I have seen in my own life. I have lived and worked in black neighborhoods, seen some great people and awful people there just as in other neighborhoods.

Then, from what you have observed, why is it you think that 13% of the general population contributes 42% of the prison population. Is it the nature of the beast? Can it be attributed to the larger amount of melanin in the skin, a disconnected circuit in the negroid brain that tends to criminality, a congenital lackadaisical attitude toward life in general, intellectually only 2/3rds human, perhaps? Since you have lived and walked among them, and even befriended and broke bread with them, please, you must have an answer. Be generous, share it with us, so that we, as you, may join the oppression in good conscience.

Most of the black people I've been fortunate enough to be acquainted with have been musicians, and since I've found musicians as a group to be intellectually a cut above the rest of the herd, it makes it difficult for me to judge.

You, on the other hand have been fortunate to observe a wider sample of the species in its natural habitat.

BTW, may I be so bold as to suggest a read for you, Richard Wright's fine novel, Native Son. It deals with this very subject. I found it quite an education.

Because of choices those people made in life, no matter what their race or sex. You choose a life or crime then you pay the price.

Life is what you make of it. Just because someone grows up in a bad area of town doesn't mean they have to be bad.

I would have thought such an intellectual person as you would not need it explained to them.

But many can rightfully claim they have fewer rights than others.

That is a facile cop-out to absolve yourself of responsibility for anyone or anything. It's the coward's answer.

No two people on the planet have ever been created equal (although perhaps some pairs of identical twins have come close). Society (particularly capitalist society) just couldn't function under those circumstances. On the other hand Communism (in its original and purest form) tried to function on that theory. That worked well, didn't it?

And the bullshit we hear about everyone in the USA having an equal opportunity to make good - oh, please! Capitalism demands winners and losers. Some lose though laziness, some lose through doing the right thing in the right place at the wrong time or the wrong thing in the right place at the right time and very clearly some lose because their skin is the wrong colour.

Some people are just full of it. Some of the people doing the most complaining about discrimination are the ones doing it and expecting special treatment. Granted circumstances affect some outcomes, but we have more control over our own destiny than any one else.

What makes people in other countries such an expert on what goes on in the US? How do you know so much about what goes on here? Surely you are not so naïve that you believe everything the biased media spits out or every thing you read online, but then again you probably are.

I know what was meant by that statement, sorry if you can't comprehend it. If it has to be explained to someone then they will never understand or admit to it's meaning.

I really don't care what your thoughts are of me and as someone else posted earlier, when someone posts something that liberals on here don't agree with we get labeled.

Lack of common sense seems to prevail in today's society, if things don't change they will get worse for all.

A lot of groups discriminate against their own members. They further their agenda by holding their own back, this coming from statement people I knew that were minorities. Had a good friend that was against everything Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton said. He thought they hurt the black man more than they helped, they made blacks into stereotypes he said.

Evidently you do use your right side since you have a good imagination.

So you take the statements of your one token black guy and you have it all figured out? Or is it the fact that it fits your prefered narrative so you figure he speaks for all black people? Don't get me wrong there's all kinds of things I could say about good old Al but don't use people like him to lessen the very real discrimination problem that is happening in both our countries(just so you don't feel picked on).The problem is not as simple as you and a number of people on the alt right make it out to be. Like saying they are using discrimination as an excuse blah blah. Sorry it's a real and ongoing problem that needs addressing.

I just used one person as an example. I have heard it from several. When it comes to someone getting preferential treatment because they are a minority is that not discriminating against others?

What if there was WET or NAAWP, what controversy would that create?

So anyone on the right is wrong? What says I have to be on the right or left? I don't know anyone else's situation but there seems to be a lot of people out of touch with the real world, maybe because they are in the upper class. You come to my area of the country and you will see the majority feel like me and that showed with the election results.

I'm pretty sure I'm not part of the upper class I'm an ordinary working guy that struggles every month.I think it's you that's out of touch with reality. If you want to think your problems are greater or need more attention than the next guy then have at it. I think you are going to regret the choices you have made and time will tell as your lot doesn't get a whole lot better with simplistic bombastic statements with no real plan. Good luck to you as your country and mine are going to need it.

I am not out of touch with reality at all. I deal with it every day. I work a full time fixing things and then help feed the world when not doing that. I need less attention that most, the left is the one always seeking it. Guess that is the reason this post even started in the beginning.

Thanks for your answer.

I'd thought to go somewhere (have a little sadistic fun) with this, but, after giving it some thought, I decided what's the use.

And so, in your mind, speaking to historical systemic injustice fans the flames of hatred. With that as criterion we may assume you think Jesus Christ, whose anniversary I'm almost certain you are soon to celebrate, was in fact justly accused of preaching sedition and rightly condemned, under the law, to death. Also both Gandhi and Desmond Tutu were rightly jailed in South Africa, as was Martin Luther King in your America.

On the other hand, to be fair, I must agree; President Obama did indeed fan the flames of racial hatred. He did this by being elected to govern a nation that yet harbors ignorant louts who think blacks are only suited to shining shoes or tap dancing on the Lawrence Welk show.

Seems other countries also have their own louts. Hard to believe people in other countries know what is best for the US.

Yes I do believe in Jesus Christ.

You had a President that once told the world "You're either with us or you're with the terrorists". Citizens of the "Coalition" that was created under Dubbyah have every right to express their fears regarding the war mongering aspect of the Alt-Right U.S. Politicians.

That post is a valid response to your myopic opinion that no-one outside the USA has a right to express an interest in or an opinion on US politics. The USA has an enormous influence in world affairs, an influence which is not always wielded as well as it should be, Dubya being a classic example. The signs are screaming out that The Donald will be a far bigger international disaster than Bush ever was. It's not about what's best for the USA, it's about what's best for the world.

For the record, I am currently very much opposed to the current Australian government because its position on anthropogenic pollution is very much not in the best interests of the world.

I make no apology for caring about the planet we share and shall express my opinion on that subject whenever and wherever I can despite the contrary opinion of a few insular Americans.

And yet another YUGE reason why the world has a stake in America's politics.

http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/06/us-military-bases-around-the-world-119321

Why in the hell do we have to keep explaining this to so many Americans? Are they that insular and myopic?

Scary stuff.

Can't say that I disagree as I think we should keep the majority of our forces at home. Use them to patrol the borders. But then again everyone expects the US to help with situations all the time.

I wish we would keep our money at home to help our own first. We waste billons of dollars helping other countries and they hate us.

Why do you think you have to explain it to anyone? Have you made the your responsibility? There are lots of short sighted and ignorant people in the world, they are not all within the US.

Why? You, yourself have asked several times here why foreigners feel obliged to comment on American politics and policies.

So, it was necessary to explain it to you.

I think I can safely say that almost all the members here who are not American have addressed this issue several times, to the point of tedium. Even our American moderators have offered explanations. The insularity of far too many Americans, who know or concern themselves with little or nothing of the outside world, is disheartening to those of us who live with the consequences of American decision making, which we are powerless to effect other than our ability to voice an opinion.

And all the folks in foreign lands you mentioned America spends a ton of money on -- they don't hate you because you help them, they hate you because you patronize and oppress them. People are grateful to be helped, but they naturally get pissed of when they're either used for target practice or told to be good little boys and girls because father knows best.

You sir are proof that insularity exists in other countries not only in America and like the majority of my Canadian coworkers , arrogant.

I am sure Trump will make mistakes but who doesn't?
Obama has made his share and Clinton did also.
Hopefully from an article I just read Congress is going to reign Obama in during his last days.
http://president45donaldtrump.com/congress-just-voted-strip-power-obama-rest-presidency/

Also read this one:

Hard to believe CNN did that one.

What in your opinion did Bush do that was so bad?

I'm afraid you will not have to wait too long to discover your errors in judgement. There is a big difference between governing a country and a reality TV show.

It is not hard for me to see the comming disaster of a Trump presidency, He is not fit for the task, and by the time this becomes painfully evedent, even to those who currently share your views, too much damage may have been done for our country to easily recover.

Shelly

Never watched his show. Never cared for that type of show. Seems everyone here is so sure he will fail. I hope they are wrong but no one can be sure of it either way.

Facts show mistakes of present and precious administrations everyone one is just speculating now. No one seems to want admit Obama made any mistakes. None of the have been perfect.

Only reason I asked Paul is that some people that talk the most about environment concerns don't always practice what they preach. Some that are all about cleaner air have no problem burning fossil fuels.

I do lots of things to protect the environment. Some in my job(should say all as it is all about a greener world) and some in the agricultural operation.

Maybe I am a little bold but actions speak louder than words.
Easy to say than it is to do. It can't be done from sitting behind a computer screen. I could do more but I don't have the resources to do everything that needs to be done.

Glad you made a few bucks off your beers cans, hopefully you were able to buy another 12 pack. Glad you could brag a little. Hopefully you didn't use up more energy than you save in the recycling.

I'm sure you meant to say "empty beer cans".

I think this thread has about run its course. Maybe it's time to move on to discussing Jason's feathered dinosaur post. After all, how can dinosaur remains be 99 million years old when the earth was only created 6000 years ago - at least according to "scholars" likely found in Hillary's aptly labeled basket?

Jim.

Another one:

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/muslim-woman-new-york-city-pushed-down-stairs-subway-called-terrorist/?ftag=CNM-00-10aab7e&linkId=31992332

A man saw a woman wearing a Muslim head covering walking down a subway stairwell, pushed her down it, and called her a terrorist. (Pretty sure he was the only one terrorizing anybody.)

Also, from that same article:

Quote:
The assault marked the latest in a string of incidents in which Muslim women were seemingly attacked because of their faith. On Saturday, a man harassed and threatened an off-duty police officer who was wearing a Muslim head covering in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, authorities said.

The officer, Aml Elsokary, had encountered a man who was yelling and pushing her 16-year-old son. She tried to intervene, according to police.

Police said the suspect, 36-year-old Christopher Nelson, said to her, “ISIS , I will cut your throat, go back to your country,” CBS New York reported.

Nelson was arrested on charges of menacing as a hate crime and aggravated harassment in the case, the NYPD said on Monday. He was arraigned and bail was set at $50,000.

And:

Quote:
On Saturday, swastikas were found scrawled inside a train. Last week, KKK fliers and business cards were distributed at two Long Island Rail Road stations, Cuomo’s office said.

This is *NOT* okay and should not be accepted as normal regardless of your party affiliation.
