"Canada sets universal broadband goal of 50Mbps and unlimited data for all"

Canada's telecom regulator yesterday declared that broadband Internet must be considered "a basic telecommunications service for all Canadians" and created a fund to connect rural and remote communities. With this decision, high-speed broadband is now treated as an essential technology similar to voice service.

How well are rural areas of Canada covered? I know our area of the US has limited choices, satellite or wireless. No DSL or cable in my area.

Kentucky, DSL is a few miles away. Cable is a long way away.

Not well that's why as an essential service they will be forced to provide at least some coverage.Of course it isn't as profitable as the cities but I'm sure one can subsidize the other. My isp Shaw Comunications has been on a buying spree of channels and wireless companies over the last few years so it's not like they are hurting.
