"Anyone have any experience on E- Bay?"

Few years ago i created an account on e- bay cuz i wanted to buy a used item.

Just earlier 2nite i logged back in cuz i have a car part I'd like to get rid of. I proceeded to log in and update my account. The part where i got confused is where it asked for my credit card/billing information. I even read the part where it said they would not charge me anything to be a seller.

Yet when i updated all necessary info, i clicked on 'Next' button and i was immediately taken to a page where it asked me enter all the credit card number AGAIN!

Does anyone know if you have to really pay a fee to sell something on e-bay??? I'm really confused here.

Yes, you pay a small commission to eBay when you sell something. Details are available on the site.

Why would they make you enter your card number a second time?

In addition to paying a small listing fee, you are also charged a final value fee. The final value fee is a certain percentage that they take based on what the item actually sold for

Jenn in light of your comment, i think i might not sell the item after all. All that for a item that might fetch $35 bucks or so? fuggitabout it...

If anyone is interested in buying a rear light assembly for a '88-89 Honda Accord, please PM or e-mail me. I'd like to get it off my hands. TYVM.

The charges are proportional to the price of the item, and not prohibitive. People sell things for a dollar or less on eBay all the time.

They have also started requesting CC details from sellers as a way of reducing fraud.

In response to smellystudent (Reply # 7)

Every once in a while, my Sygate firewall alerts me to the fact that first IE6 and then Outlook Express are trying to connect with Paypal - a service which I never have used.

Is this something that I should worry about?

PS I always block the request!!

UKMitch, i don't mind you posting in my thread but don't you think your question would garner better responses in the computer forum since it's somewhat of a technically related question?

No worries, joe joe.

I was reading through your Ebay thread when the point about credit checks came up.

I'd had the Paypal issue on my mind for a while and I somehow put it all together!!

As I said, I must have been day-dreaming, as the two subjects are of course totally unrelated.

Obviously, however, you understood. Thanks!

It is my understanding that Ebay bought the Paypal company.I always used their "billpoint" system to pay, but they seem to encourage the use of Paypal now.Paypal had some legal problems for awhile but I expect that all is OK with EBay as the parent.

Chewy,

I took the liberty of starting a new thread on the ebay credit card subject (http://www.pcqanda.com/dcforum/DCForumID3/2930.html) because this is so tricky it should be looked at. (the fraudulent link won't last very long, so it may not make sense unless someone is able to post a screen shot)
