Typical corporate america behavior. This is one reason why i really loathe corporate america. They should have invested that $1 M to our school education system here or set up a scholarship fund for needy students. God knows we got enough underpaid / overworked teachers here to make use of that $1 million.
Giving that kind of money to a teenager is just ludicrous. And so is giving $90 to a H.S. basketball player.
Recession??? what recession? If Nike has $1 M that's burning a hole in their pockets, guess what folks... there is NO recession. It's just the rich fat bastards that don't want you to know they're living a gluttonous luxury life while the regular joes like you and I get the fscking shaft.

US Nike employees donated approximately $1.8 million to charitable organizations. Nike's corporate commitment to employee involvement matched those contributions dollar-for-dollar. Nike matched 41,376 hours of employee volunteer time, for a community investment of $413,760. More than 1,346 different charitable organizations benefited from the generosity of Nike employees."
I found those links in a Google search which took 5 seconds, BTW. Have you thought this concept of specific altruistic obligations amoung "rich fat bastards" all the way? Like what defines "rich fat bastard" (is it having a net worth of $1,000? $10,000? $15,000? A million?) Or why this obligation somehow doesn't apply to you, despite it applying to everyone who neatly fits into your concept of rich people?

Seeing you're so good with a search engine, find us some information on the conditions under which Nike's products are manufactured, and their profit margins.

I'm not disputing that. What I'm disputing is that Nike isn't giving back to the community, and that they're obligated to give specific sums of money to specific portions of the community.

Nike, like any company has every right to spend it's money any way they want to. Their only responsibility is to their stockholders, and if management did not make decisions based upon increasing sales and profits, they would soon be looking for new employment.
That is the system that built our economy and made it the most successful and efficient the world has ever seen. There is no shortage of socialist countries for those that wish to hold out their hands for a free ride from the efforts of others.
