The most enjoyable aspect of my life has been my boys wrestling. I have two sons the youngest of which is 17 so I am dreading next year (because he will be out of highschool). The first match I went to over 10 years ago I thought I was going to hate, but just the opposite - I loved it. For most of the year on Saturdays we get up at an ungodly hour to drive incredible distances to sit on bleachers for 12 hours (frequently longer). One more month till we start again ... I can't wait.

Very nice site Balo. I enjoyed the reading and still have more to do.
And Canvas, sounds like you're very busy. I think that's one of the great things about life...experiences.

Bicycle riding and touring - about 3000 miles a year, 14.5 - 15 mph average speed. It's a great low impact exercise, maintains coordination and balance, relieves stress, and gets me to places I wouldn't be able to walk to due to distance.

For me riding is more addictive than PC911/PCQandA and certainly more expensive than my computer system.

Jim.

i'm a commuter biker- wind, snow, rain and shine! but not hills! pretty flat around here.

love to read.

also frequently ask myself the question, "where does the day go?"

edit: oh, yeah! and dancing...and reading the news...and then there's the garden...working out...

and i make myself stand still at least daily, just to feel the weather, and the what-it-is.

Believe it or not, I love doing research papers and long essays for class. For example, I have two 5 page and one 7 page papers due for a class on the 18th of Ocotober. Chances are, I'll start doing research today, but I refuse to start writing the papers until three days before they are do. The stress involved has always gotten me better grades and left me a little more fulfilled.

I don't really have time for any other hobbies, but I do like sitting on my ass and doing nothing

I like listening to classical music, watching Japanese anime, reading (usually informational/non-fiction), and screwing around with Linux or on the web (especially the FYAD forum on forums.somethingawful.com).

I love reading. Historical fiction and pc books are my favorites. After that it's growing houseplants. I love the atmosphere they create.
Before I got my first pc I was really into making rugs. But that has been set aside for awhile because I find my pc's much more interesting.

Only thing - other than cooking, cleaning and grocery shopping (which are chores, not enjoyment) - is being on this computer...don't have interests in anything else.

I think my favorite is communicating with my cats, particularly Raven. Communicating consists of speaking in strange intonations (bi-directionally), holding and petting the cute furry guy, and occasionally yelling when he jumps in my lap, abruptly bumping the family jewels.

Oh yeah, fun and games with my wife is right at the top, too!

I retired almost 3 years ago at the ripe old age of 56. 34 years in aerospace was enough. My favorite past-time is riding my racing bicycle. Out here in Los Angeles,ca. There is a bike path along the beach so thats were I normally ride. I ride 3 times a week and I really enjoy it. Especially during the summer months when all the honeys are wearing there halter tops. lol. My other interests are reading mystery paperbacks and gardening. I just planted two flats of pansies today. Oh I forgot one interest, I go to Lauglin Nevada a couple of times a year to play vidio poker. It gives me an opertunity to catch up on my spending. ha

My other two hobbies are astronomy and amateur radio. Both have suffered neglect in recent years. With winter coming and earlier sunsets, I might do some more astronomy. Lugging the telescope away from the city to where the skies are dark can be a chore.

I like growing plants from zones other than 6. I grew 4 plumeria (the very fragrant flowers they use to make leis in Hawaii) from little shriveled sticks, it took 3 years but 2 of them bloomed finally.

I enjoy taking pictures with my digital camera. Bugs, butterflies, hummingbirds, flowers, kids, nothing gets away from my lens. }>

Rather than relocate, I took early retirement 8 years ago.
Since then my non PC time fillers are reading, mostly historical novels and biographies, and restoring historic houses. I am now on the second one with the emphasis on restoration as opposed to "improvment".

I'm an avid reader,I like to garden, walk on the beach or just wander aimlessly in the bush depending where i am,and I too really enjoy sitting on my arse doing nothing. To eat is to be, therefore I am.

I like to see how close I can come to the crazy nuts that ride bicycles along the coast highway between Newport and Florence Oregon. You never know where I will be and I have huge mirrors. Heh heh.

You must have missed the part about passing with assured clear distance. God forbid that you ever hit someone but if you should, even if they don't get a penny out of you, they'll likely bankrupt you just defending yourself. Being considerate and delayed a few seconds is certainly preferable to being tied up in litigation for years. Whether you like it or not, other users have rights on the highways.

Jim.

Wow! What varied interests everyone has.

Mine are genealogy, digital restoration of old pictures, reading, baking, wondering when I had time to work and helping my husband with his computer problems.

Yeah, I know, that last one's a hoot given all the stupid questions I ask here. My husband says he doesn't have to remember all that computer stuff 'cause he sleeps with his "helpdesk."

EDit: "Besides loving the computer, what else do you enjoy doing?"

BTW, I wouldn't have listed computing as one of my hobbies, and it's probably a stretch to say that I love the thing. I think of it a little more as a glorified telephone, to put me in contact with lots of people and places, and there are times that I hate computers and telephones!

My GF Alma. Love songs make sense, and seem relevent now because of her. Camping is better now too!

I like to build and rebuild/refurbish stringed instruments. Play and collect guitars. I like working on my cars and motorcycles. I also like driving/riding them too! Hillclimbs. Camping, boating & fishing. Learning languages, especially ones that aren't well known. Currently learning to speak Visayan. Audiophile. Collecting information and learning in general. (wish I was this interested when I was in school!) Master Ed Parker's Kenpo, Jeet Kune Do, and Muay Thai. I love to cook, especially Thai food! I love martial arts movies, even the cheesy ones! Comedy of all kinds. Learning from different points of view. (This has grown from having so many international friends.) Collecting friends. My two goofy oddeyed cat friend/monsters.

The list goes on, but I'll spare your bandwidth! <G>

Guitars and music. When not on the pc ya can usually find me layin back with my amp cranked wailing away.

Also like astronomy. I live out in the country on a hill so I got a perfect spot for star gazing. I am a nite owl so that helps out too.

I like to read, listen to music, and going out to eat. I started playing acoustic guitar a few months ago and really enjoy it but I seem to keep breaking strings and its getting to be a real hastle. I also get into drawing and painting a bit but havent done so in a while. Big movie fan and also computer gameing recently.

You're not trying to do the Pete Townsend windmill are ya breaking all those strings.

Make sure you are not using cheepo strings, I use D'Addario's, and your guitar is not tuned too high. Actually on my accoustics I usually tune down half a step and rarely break one unless it is getting old.

I recommend either the Martin Phosphor strings for acoustic, Ernie Ball acoustic, or the Dean Markley Blue Steel acoustic. If you are breaking strings a lot, go to a heavier gauge, like the Blue Steel Mediums. Also make sure that your bridge is locked down correctly, any minor slippage can cause a snap, and ensure the nut is free of sharp edges. I went through 4 sets of Ernie Ball Bass Strings (25 bucks a set) before I realized that the nut on my Ibanez had a REAL sharp edge on it, probably from all the abuse it took.

Used to be doing sound and recording for rock bands until my back told me it was time to stop. My Son is a drummer with a rock band in NY(33 Years old and a fiber optics engineer. My daughter is a percussionist for a Wind Symphony in Boston(27 years old and a medical researcher).

Now my wife and I attend Drum Corps shows, musicals, seashore walks, cooking and enjoying my job working in the Special Education Department of our school system.

I almost forgot the best....OUR TWO WONDERFUL CATS!!!!!!!!
